And I've heard 1982 and 1983, which is it?

It started as " The Wild Geese " in 1983, It was " R.T. Tham Sat " in 1982... They adopted the friendlier The Wild Geese after some internal complaints about the name being vietnamese for Death from above.

As for our first patch it was a direct clone of the promo patch that was given out some how along with the movie " The Wild Geese "

The newest incarnation of the team does go by the name "Wild Geese Recon" only at the more milsimmy events, but genrally speaking we still call our selves "The Wild Geese"

Yep... 16 years of actual playing time, I started when I was 9, and probally 23 years around the game. Some of my early childhood memories was hanging out at " American Airgun Game's " shop and helping my father who worked there for the discount to clean the rental nelspots

Hell I remember a point when my fathers friend got a 68 special and I couldnt pull the trigger it was so heavy.

So granted even though I was really young alot of the forming info for The Wild Geese I was around for, I used to get dragged out alot to team meetings and the such just because I was interested in it. The team became my extended family of wacky uncles so to say.. and still are hehe

I have no idea where the logo came from for the west coast club. All I remember, way back when I first joined the Wild Geese Club, was them telling me something about a real wild geese army squad or something. Then again, the patch could just be something they came up with and didn't copy from anyone. I mean, it's either the goose is going to be sitting, or flying right?

Spy!

I got the answer from an old timer in the group.....

Both your guys patch and my guys patch were more or less copy's of a patch that could of been found at Irish-American stores way back when.. That had some origin in the clans and family of irish fighters that backed up other armys.

So Al's reference is valid.

If I ever find the patch in reference ( I know I have it some where in my files ) Ill post a picture of it up. It looks almost exactly like your teams but the good is smaller and it has "WILD GEESE" in an arch above the mountains.

Great, now I'm in a researching mode. Finding information on the club isn't going to be easy. It's original members are scattered everywhere.

How are the east coast Wild Geese team doing anyways?

not to derail this current train of thought, but the translation "to keep us from getting married" or "to keep us from staying married" is humorous and oddly approriate for our paintslinging hobby... lol
