Redux Tuning - Need some help

Is the Redux just an inherently inefficient gun?

I can't get it to get close to 20 full power shots.

I can get about 10-15 shots at 280 fps and then it drops down to the 250s for about 5 shots and then the 12 gram is out.

Are Crossman 12ies just crap? I've used old ones, new ones and its the same story. Is there some other brand I should be trying?

Paint is matched to the bore, I had a medium strength valve spring in there with a heavy main spring. The next step was going to be lowering the valve spring strength and lowering the main spring strength but I can't seem to find a good balance between the two.

What are other Redux owners getting for efficiency numbers?

I dont have access to a chrono sorry. You are saying you are only getting 20 shots total correct? All 12 grams should be created equal. I have some RAP4 camo grams Ill post results on total effective shots later today but like I said I dont have a chrono. I ususally go Red main Yellow valve spring.

all 12 grams are NOT created equal, and many store brand off the shelf ones are UNDERFILLED (and sometimes the opposite) to various conditions.

I'll try the red main and yellow valve.

I am only getting 20 useable shots (above 200...)

How many shots are you getting before you swap the 12ie?

I'm just really curious if I am chasing unattainable effieciency due to the valve size or if something is wrong with my setup.

I always used heavy valve medium main if I could get velocity out of it, or heavy valve heavy main if I needed to. Sometimes better porting on the power tube might help get the high pressure short pop needed for efficency.

IIRC, Derrick Obitake and many other duck/box owners would chrono in at a lower fps, usually around 265, to get more shots from their 12gs.

I try shooting with a heavy main, light valve and a larger power tube. I think it used to be equivalent to a #4.

BTW: Wander: Our older Ducks and Boxguns didn't have interchangeable barrels. So shooting lower velocities was not as important in the older days when we could barrel/paint match easily by just using Nelson paint as exclusively as we could. Playing outdoors I'd still try to chrono between 275-285 on the first couple shots out of a new 12g. Any higher and you were basically asking for blown up balls and also cork screwing.

Also the reasoning behind the original Boxgun Derrick made was because it was set up for the lower fps limits of the indoor fields we were frequenting at the time. The gun from "day one" always had an ultra even 12-to-6 ball flight. So screwing around with the velocities once it was dialed in made little sense. Derrick dumped 12g's pretty often, so getting a few extra shots out of a powerlet was not that big of a determinant.

Springing will help you out, go for a heavy valve spring and work from there.
