help with my tippmann 68 special

We'll, my dad bought a tippmann 68 special quite along time ago from a friend. And it's been sitting for years, I asked him for it and he said if I can fix it I can have it. It appears that it's not semi-automatic anymore, the bolt won't blow back. I'm not sure if it is a syphon tank, had the problem when he bought it. Could having a non-syphon tank cause this? Or maybe a spring I'm not really sure, any help appreciated.

It needs a siphon tank for sure.

I know it needs one, but will not having a syphon tank cause the bolt not to blow back?

68 Specials NEED siphon tanks or else they won't work properly. They might not recock, or have sufficient velocity, or both. The problem could be because of not having a siphon tank, or it could be something else. Try firing with a siphon tank first though.

Try it without the linkage arm. Sometimes the front bolt can stick pretty bad.

Sometimes the upper receiver needs a good honing. Its a poor grade steel that rusts and pits pretty easily when it sits for a while.

Could also be some swelled orings causing things to bind up.

A good place to start is to remove the bolt link. It should cycle no problem without the bolt, even without the siphon. If it still doesnt cycle, then there might be an obstruction (ie incorrect spring guide), or problem with the trigger.

While it does need a siphon for proper FPS, mine would still cycle without, so it might just be old, rusty, and gummed up from years of neglect.
