| MCB Member Join Date: May 2008 | M249 Box mag Mod I now that I have the parts to start my project.... Issues that need to be addressed, so far: - enlarge box mag to fit Reloader B forcefeed thingy *COMPLETED* (I plan to split the box mag in half, enlarge it, secure it in with sheet aluminum, expoxy and pop rivet it in place) - mounting mag to box mag so that the AT Mag is easily removable and fit my ATS when I get my AT4 receiver. (I'll ponder how to when I'm showering later) - figure out where to cut the Reloader B downward pipe so that I can attach the Qloader tube to feed upwards to the AT mag. (I'll copy Butter's model) *COMPLETED* On another note. I purchased an airsoft A&K M249 para for $278 online, shipped. It is pretty cool and it will be my next project after this box mag project. For now It will just be an expensive paper weight. I estimate that the M249 paintball gun a will take 6 months to complete after the box mag mod. Last edited by L I T O; 06-17-2008 at 06:39 AM.. |

| MCB Member Join Date: May 2008 | Progress on the box mag. I split the original M249 box mag and used thin aluminum sheet metal to expand it. I have yet to rivet the aluminum in place and figure out how to attach the damn mag to the box mag. I'm thinking about something that could be easily unbolted for cleaning/maintenance. I'm going to have to stop for now as I just ordered an AT4 receiver from LT and should get it Thursday/Friday. Current capacity is unknown. Bad ass factor increased 3 fold. Milsimesness increased slightly. Last edited by L I T O; 05-27-2008 at 11:49 PM.. |

I figured out to mount the mag to the box but now I'm thinking that a full metal magazine would be nice as plastic tends to break readily than metal.... Now I'm contemplating how to reload my mag once in stalled. One idea is to use the existing lid and place a hinge just above the reloader B level and reload from there or cut out an opening on the top of the mag of the right side and just have a hinged door to reload. I'm also going to use magnets as the device to keep the door closed like in the ReLoader B2. I'm still working on it and my M249, not fast but it's progressing. |

The bottom picture is what the box mag will be when inserted into my gun. I decided to have the box mag fit up to the trigger guard. I'm now wishing that the ATS magazines were made of metal...... I'm not sure if the plastic mags can withstand the weight of the box mag and the 300+ rounds. Looks like I have to do a lot of reinforcing modifications to the ATS mag. Now all in need are a rail and a bi-pod to be a heavy MG for my team. Last edited by L I T O; 06-16-2008 at 02:39 PM.. |

Looks like I'll have to run metal plates from the box mag to the top of gun and figure how to mount to the weaver rail, yet look deliberate and stylish at the same time. If there isn't anything that just attaches to the weaver rail then I'm just going to have to chop up my carry handle (I have two already) and weld a metal brackets and run it down to the box mag. I'll just replace the carry handle with the rear peep sight. eBay, here I come. Damn another problem........ The ATS marker requires that I have the magazine out before I air up and fire a few rounds. I'm thinking that the metal brackets that hold on to the weaver mount should be in place before I attach the box mag, do the air up procedure, and then put the box mag in and then attach the bracket to the box mag via some kind of quick disconnect device. Gosh, too much work involved to ueber customize my gun...... I'm already too far into this project to quit now. So much time and money invested something has to come of it damnit!
