Dentent mod or Python, Pro's/Con's, Discuss!

So I am debating on either getting the detent mod done for my phantom, or getting a python kit for it. I would like to know the pros and cons of each method. Any experience would be useful too. Also, if I got a python kit, it would be made to accept cocker threaded barrels. Also, would it be worth it to maybe get both mods.

Thoughts? Ideas? Concerns? Discuss!

sorry OT, but when I glanced at your thread title quickly I mistook it for "decent Monty Python discussion".
I can't help with the Python kit, but have had no issues with the detent rings.

I am getting a Phantom with detents (ASP), I had one of the bodies before and sold it before I shot it. Looking at it though I figured it would be good where I play as it would prevent rollouts on the FOP that I will have to use. I don't think a barrel insert or detent ring would do as good a job as the o-ring detents. It wouldn't matter so much if I could take the time to sort all the paint I would be using. Also, the Roundhead body I bought comes with the detents built in already but I was impressed enough with the system that I was looking at buying a regular Phantom body from ASP if the ROundheads didn't come out soon.

So I guess some questions you have to ask yourself are:
1) How much paint will I be shootine and of what kind?
2) Will I have time to sort and size it if needed?
3) How much money do I want to spend?

I've done a spider detent mod on a phantom. Stole the idea from the 2006 Lapco grey ghost. It worked just fine. I can't see a downside except that it only worked on stock class bodies.

SKX, good point on the paint size issues. Almost all the fields near me in DC are FPO, so the detent mod would probably be the better way to go. Although I wish I could find a roundhead body...

i would go with the detent rings from CCI. for $7 they work like a charm and offer the same advantages as a barrel kit, without the barrel kit price.

Except you lose them very easily, also, with variations in ball size, they can cause either balls to chop, or still cause roll outs. I just hate losing the things. I have had them disappear from my gun when me NEVER taking the barrel off. They are the ninjas of the paintball parts world...

While we are on that subject, if you get an ASP detented Phantom body do yourself a favor and tape the o-ring detents in place. A small piece of scotch tape or electricians tape will keep you from having the play the four legged "where is" game.

Whilst trying bits and pieces out with the new body, I would forget they were there until they weren't.

well I have a little story...

I didn't want a barrel kit for my phantom because it was acid washed

Detent rings were being bitchy and broke paint...

I took them out and Voila! no rollouts!

How you ask? Well on the UC kit the screw is about 1-2 threads too long, and the ball sits right on top of the screw, and it WILL NOT fall out.

True story :P
