co2 woes.....

So i took my phantom out for the first time in a while with just a 4oz screwed straight in the marker vertically and it was horribly inconsistent. To the point where it was almost pointless to even play. Im wondering if changing to a bottom line 13/3k tank would fix the problem?

Are you using some barrel sizer system? My phantom was working great yesterday. Paint was tiny .673. Velocity was 279,279,280. Using 3.5oz CO2 vertical.

There's your problem. You should definitely look into getting your barrel freak bored by Super_Stanchy Customs. He is here on MCB. Definitely the best upgrade you can do for accuracy, efficiency and consistency.

Was your tpc locked down properly? Either with the nylon set screw or an o-ring tpc mod?

Also check the power tube. Make sure its screwed snugly into the cup seal. That is often a huge inconsistency problem maker. I have it happen after a few days of hard playing.

.673 is quite common around here...

I don't run an insert kit most of the time and don't find I have consistency issues. I can't agree that that's your problem unless your using them as a detent (sorry Bassdude.) More often its simple things like:

-partial rollouts (these can be solved with detent rings, detent mod and to some degree freak, ifit inserts)
-lousy paint
-variation in ambient temperature
-loose tpc
-all or some of the above

An hpa tank is a massive upgrade in the consistency area but really only solves the temperature variation issue (that can be a big one though, it is here in the Pacific northwest)

But you have an ASP modded breech. That does the same job as an insert kit. If you underbore with an insert kit, you don't get rollouts. This acts as a detent system as well as allowing for the best efficiency (no air is lost around the ball) and accuracy (bore to ball size is the best way to achieve accuracy). Though it doesn't stop double feeds like an ASP modded breech will.

Yes, the TPC could also be culprit. Definitely check into that as well, in addition to everything else Michael pointed out.

Totally Bassdude, I meant no offense btw. Only that not having an insert kit does not automatically mean inconsistent fps. I understand the job of an insert kit as increasing efficiency primarily, its ability to stop roll-outs if one is underboring is also possible, though imho not as effective as a dedicated detent mod like the SSC or ASP ones (unless your paintballs are perfectly spherical.). As for an insert kit increasing accuracy, hmmmm I'd have to see the pudding on that one!

808jackal also has a good idea, though that has not happened to me... yet.
