Just wondering how this rule should be applied to the old 7 oz tanks with the 1800 psi valves. Remember seeing them with Nitro Duck valves a few times.

I have always been under the impression the 4oz tanks that are larger in diameter than 2" are not exempt and do have a hydro date printed on them. Doesn't matter to me really, no one around here even fills Co2 anymore, so I have a 20# I fill from myself.

That's why I love this site, you can get answers without sarcasm.
as jim pointed out, the "2x2" exemption only applies to 3al aluminum tanks.

dot-7737 (or 3e) tanks have a separate exemption. so all those old c02 tanks from mid-nities are perfectly fine, as long as they haven't been run over, tossed into a fire, cut up with a hacksaw, etc.

let run some numbers here. a full leland 12g cartridge weighs 1.4oz, an empty one weighs 1.1oz, so each 12g cartridge has 0.3oz c02. that works out to 13.3 (we'll round down to 13) cartridges being equivalent to a 4oz bottle. a typical nelson valved marker will get about 35 (conservative) shots per 12g cartridge. 13 x 35 = 455.

one 4oz bottle should get you about 450 shots on your phantom. now we just need someone who actually has a phantom and a 4oz bottle to say for sure.
