Columbia/Jeff City, Missouri area

Where's a good place to fling paint in the Columbia/Jefferson City area of Missouri? Long story short, it looks like I'll be moving to that area in the next couple of months, and was looking to see what fields were open in the area and what you folks thought of them. I generally just play rec-ball once a month (or once a year, as has been the case in the not too distant past) with fairly low-key gear (Tippmann M98C's and Classic 'Mags) and don't really need a speedball-centric field. I don't mind playing speedball, though I do mind dealing with most of your basic "AGG" speedball-playing jerkwads.

And I'm even interested in outlaw groups, so if you know of one and have their contact info, please feel free to share. I understand Missouri is one of those typical midwest states when it comes to paintball - plenty of room to play, but usually not enough population density to support a field for long - so I'm okay with flinging with an outlaw group. I've had good experiences with them and don't mind making new friends.

Anything? Something? Nothing? Heck, any fields at all in the Columbia/Jeff City area?

Nope, I'm in Jeff, and the closest 'real' place is either Lebanon (crap) or Wentzville (never been). I usually end up going to Bushwackers in Eureka, about 1:45 from Jeff.

If you do end up in Jeff ****ty, a group of friends meets frequently (usually every other week) at the local cathedral parking lot to go to a farm to play. I have a chrono, and we're working on getting CO2 and HPA fill stations, and maybe a set of inflatables.

Our ultimate goal is to start a Jeff City Paintball Club, have a bunch of rentals, and a crapload of reballs, and get permission to use the YMCA tennis courts to play.

TIS - thanks for the info! Still not sure if we'll be moving to Columbia or JC, but either way I should be close enough to join you guys from time to time. I have an 88 cubic foot SCUBA tank I use to fill my HPAs off of, and as long as there's a SCUBA shop in Columbia/JC to fill it at, I'll be golden. And I have CO2 tanks, as you never know what you'll find at the field. Look for me to be bugging you for info sometime in July/August.

No problem man, always fun to have another player.

I know there's a SCUBA shop in Jeff, and I'm pretty sure there's one in Columbia.

Doing a quick Google search, there does appear to be a SCUBA shop in JC and a couple in Columbia. As long as one of them does flow inspections and fills (and offers a hydrotesting service), I'll be good to hook. Of course, I'd recently been putting off getting my HPA's hydro'd (out of 6 tanks, all 6 of them are out of date, and I had to buy brand new CO2 tanks as well... figures) so I need to look into getting those boxed up and sent out soon. *feh* Too much to do in too little time. Oh well, it's forcing us to get rid of a bunch of stuff we'd been meaning too. As I keep telling my wife, the more stuff we get rid of, the less we'll have to haul halfway across the state.

Nothing is set in stone yet, but it looks more likely we'll settle in Columbia and I'll be commuting down to JC every day, due to a variety of factors, mostly school and job-related for the wife. JC isn't all that far away (I grew up in Carlsbad, NM, where the next biggest city was a 3-hour road trip away, 30 minutes isn't bad at all), so I'll still be up for some outlaw ball, and I'll definitely be giving url=http://www.wackywarriors.com/]Wacky Warriors[/url] out in Wentzville a try. Most of my HPAs are Nitro Duck set-ups, so it'd be nice to hear from the source what happened to the Nitro Duck side of the house. My friend over on the Tribal Owner's Group has been trying to get me to go events at Smak Zone in Patterson and Crowley Ridge in Bloomfield for years now, so I'll probably have to go to some of those since I'll be 4 hours closer. And with Bushwacker's as another option, it looks like I'll have more paintball flinging options than I first thought. This could turn out to be a very fun experience.

Not too sure...but a few

I am not too sure about the Jeff City Area or Columbia, but I have played at Bushwackers and at Wackys in Wentzville and both are pretty nice fields with good rec play and prices. It's a long drive, but a fun time. Hope to see you there sometime.

Good luck with the club. If you get big enough you might be able to get a land lease and setup a field with woods and speedball. I was a founding officer for a club in southeast OK and we did that...cool part about it was that founders (4 of us) leased the land for 4 years to hunt it, then got permission to build a field on it. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

Good luck.

Usagi, I'm about three miles from the scuba shop in town, I've only been there twice for fills, I know they'll do any size tank to 3k PSI for $5. The best place in Jeff to get paint/CO2 is the local House of Bargains, they do like $.20/ounce, and they have the widest selection of paint in town, better than Wallyworld or MC sports.

I'm also told that Extreme is a good place for airball, Bushwhackers is more of a woods/scenario (fake houses etc) field. I've never been to Extreme, but I have heard nothing but good things.

If you're in the area, we're meeting Monday at the local cathedral in Jefferson City (Saint Joseph) at 8:00 AM. Anyone's welcome to come.

Also, the drive from Jeff to CoMO isn't too bad, just you have to cross the Big Muddy to get there, and sometimes traffic gets backed up. :shrugs:

Bollen - Good to hear some first hand positives on Wacky Warriors and Bushwackers. Are you local to the Columbia/JC area or somewhere close by?

TIS - Sweet! I'll make sure to scope them out when I get down there.

My sis and brother-in-law live out in St Louis, so a trip to XTreme (you meant this XTreme, right? - Welcome to Xtreme Paintball Park Online!) on the other side of the Mississippi was in the works at some point. My BiL is working on getting himself back into paintball, and since they live only 2 hours from Columbia, it's very possible we'll start hitting like Wacky Warriors on a regular basis as it's near the middle between us.

I appreciate the offer bud, but I'll still be in the NW of the state 'til around the 15th of May, and not around much on weekends 'til June or July. Funny that you guys meet at the Saint Joseph cathedral as that's where I'm currently living - St Joe, MO.

Yeah, I've driven the route between Columbia and JC a lot, as that's the easiest way for us to get to State HQ on our various errands, and it's not a bad stretch of road. About a 30-minute commute, if no backups or accidents are in the way, and I've done that commuting inside Kansas City city limits, so no big deal there. Definitely looking at picking up a motorcycle this next fall/winter (when the prices drop, of course) and save on gas as much as possible.

Naw, I'm from STL, but am usually willing to drive to a good field. I have been to Extreme too. Good field if you have someone to play with. Their open play sucks (in my experience) but if you are there when Total Grief is in town and jump in with them it's a blast. Extreme is the STL Pump paintball capital...if you pump, Extreme is where to go.

I'll be at Bushwackers this weekend...I'll let you know how it is this year.
