| Rec Poster Join Date: Oct 2006 | Maverick Overhaul Hey fellas, just looking for some advice/words of wisdom here. I own an ACI Maverick, and while it shoots ok, I want to make it a beauty of a shooter and something I can call mine. The only thing I've done to it so far is toss on a home made L-stock, a red-dot sight, and a BE 12ie changer. I want to replace the internals with some products from ASP, tune it with a Maddman spring kit, and throw on a CCI changer. I was thinking of using the TASO adjustable bolt/hammer set, a Lapco powertube, and possibly the TASO fluted hammer from ASP. Am I totally off my rocker here, or do you think that this is possible? Would it be worth doing? |

If you already have an adjustable bolt, I'd say just stick with it and the hammer/power tube that you have. A spring kit is worth having around if you play in changing temperatures. I play with a Maverick decked out with a armson pro-dot, CCI dropout valve, AR-15 grip, and a stick-feed. It's a sweet setup. Drop by the ACI section at PBreview... let's build an army to take on these ruthless Phantom owners. Muahaha. The only improvements I'd like to see done to the Maverick are: 1) helicoils for the frame screws.. just for a little bit of added assurance that your not going to strip some important threads. Maybe it's not that big of a deal, though. 2) "Venturi" for the bolt. Phantoms (not sure what the Carters have) are noticeably quieter than a Maverick because of how the TPC re-directs the air (at the cost of decreased efficiency). It would be nice to see someone build a new bolt for the Maverick (or modify the stock one) to incorporate a new velocity changer that has a venturi type head on it (or use the CCI TPC.. but there are some other mechanical problems with doing that). I think the sound reduction would probably be worth the cost of decreased efficiency. But it may not. It probably wouldn't matter to anyone who doesn't play with 12'ers. This guy did a test with the TPC deal: http://www.geocities.com/bz456/lapcoph/lapcoph.html But yeah, even with those two open issues.. Mavericks still rock. Awesome pump stroke, ball detent, super light, efficient, CHEAP ($). Yep, I always have to list the pluses.. need to convert some of these phantom owners over. |

| Newbie Join Date: Jul 2006 | I have one of the new Mavericks from gunitpaintball.com. The CCI dropout valves are 100% compatible with the frame screws and the power tube/valve retainer (the little piece that the power tube slides through). At one point, I had an *older* Trracer (same gun as a Mav, of course) and it's valve retainer threads *did not* match the threads of the CCI dropout valve (unless I was just being completely retarted when trying to screw it in). So, if your Maverick is really freakin old, there may exist an incompatibility problem. Otherwise, you should be good to go. Just remove the guts out of the back bottle valve and throw 'em in the dropout valve and you are set to go. |

I'm thinking about getting it to see, as it looks about right for the Mav's boredrop setup. The lip on both sides of my adjustable bolt is pretty heavily worn (I've replaced my sear already) so it's a matter of necessity for me. My Mav's as quiet as any Phantom, but that's largely due to the 14" J&J Ceramic on it. I thought about using a smaller tank and a stock, but then efficiency took root and I just got a 9 oz. on a bottomline with a butt plate. Covers the need for a stock, opens up the sights and I have enough air to run around all day. Plus it's much, much cheaper. My current list of upcoming mods includes replacing the euro grip with a CCI .45 for the sake of adding a nice set of DYE Stickies. Also looking to paint the pump arm and trigger shoe a nice shade of royal blue before covering the pump handle grip in golf club grip tape. Also might just jet the adjustable bolt for a Maddman spring kit as well, I've got a non-adjustable lying around and the right combination might land me even better efficiency. Considering I once got 400 shots off a 3.5 oz tank using the stock springs, I'm pretty excited about that possibility. Last edited by TrracerAce; 04-03-2007 at 12:11 AM.. | |

| Rec Poster Join Date: Oct 2006 | [quote=TrracerAce;127635]I just got an email back from Have Blue today, regarding the TASO adjustable bolt/hammer set. The hammer's incompatible as the Trracer engineers went their own way with the powertube setup.[quote] Yes, the powertube is incorperated into the hammer. But, if you were to replace the powertube with a conventional one like a phantom's, I think you could make it work. I think I might buy the fluted hammer just to check this out with a phantom valve. |
