Polished VM-68 Project " so far "

Hi All

This is the little gem that has been taking up all my time lately.

It looks OK now but I'm far from done. I want to do a drop forward with a polished 20oz. tank and put a chrome or black EC in the front ASA. Then I want to cover the drop forward and hose with a M-16 clip. Give it a real good polish and then put Clear Duracoat on it to protect the raw alum.

and yes ssniper13( Wes ) this is the gun you sold me

Just wanted to show all my hard work up till now. Let me know what you all think of it so far. Please feel free to give me suggestions of what Else might be cool but include pics.

I'll keep you posted when I do more to it

When I polished my SL I used
80
100
200
400
600
1000
1400
1800
2000
mothers mag and aluminum polish

The SL though is not made from a good grade of aluminum so a lot of those grits were needed. For the VM I think you could just use
200
600
1000
1400
2000
mothers mag and aluminum polish.

The mothers will bring out an incredible shine and if done right leading up to it then the mothers will give you such a nice shine that you could see reflections in it.

I say good work so far.

Of course if you are local there is always delivery by trebuchet. However, either method of delivery requires wrapping in a plastic bag to prevent leakage of urine.<from pickle>

Or save yourself the trouble and get use the right kinds of wheels and polishes. This way you only have to sand up to 320. Use a sisal wheel with emery polish, a spiral sewn wheel with tripoli, and a loose cotton wheel with blizzard compound. They can be bought from www.caswellplating.com.

Keep in mind that in time the aluminum will oxidize and not look nearly as good. You will want to get it either clear anodized or I could hook you up with nickel plate

I spoke too soon really. I just recently picked up nickel plating and I've only done a few parts. But maybe sometime down the road we could work something out.

See, this is why I'm glad I sold it to you. She was just setting in my closet feeling neglected, and you've brought her out and polished her up all pretty-like. If you start bolting more metal on her, though, you're going to have arms of steel after a few days of play. Looks great, man!
