dwell Question

Okay so I have this Ion based pea shooter working but even with the pressure turned down it shoots a little hot. How low can I take the dwell and still have the bolt cycle? I want to find a nice balance between the dwell and PSI.

No idea on the minimum dwell on an Ion, but you can simply continue to reduce the pressure until you are in the correct velocity range.

If you are using a double tail oringed bolt (The HE mod) then the dwell is almost irrelevant. You could de volumize the dump chamber which would remove energy from the system.

Ty, I have another bolt enroute with double rings. We need to talk about this whole project. The response I got Saturday was amazing, the capabilities of this beast is also pretty impressive.

Give me a call.

more specific please what pressure? my ions run about 150-160 psi. with a dwell of about 12 ms I think thats like 14 clicks from the bottom i get a pretty consistent 280 fps as fast as i can go

TJ, I should probably explain this is a really odd project where I am crossing boundries. I have had this project in my head for a coupe of years and it does indeed stem from the P-Ball I played back in the 80's.

I have gotten into airsoft but the guns are a joke. The Savage pump I played with so many years ago was better designed than so many of the airsoft guns available.

I have built a very nice shooting AS gun using Ion internals coupled with an AS barrel and parts I fabricated. Now comes the fine tuning and sorting out if I can actually make them available to friends and family.

I realize this is not a PB project but it is deff using PB technology.

Mr Whisper

Here is a pic of how it was set up for playing on Sunday. When I got to the field the Joules were off the chart and that is why I am looking for ways to lower the velocity while keeping the pressure high enough for it to cycle consistently.

Over in the Airsoft world this thing is created quite the stir !!! It is called Mr Whisper because it makes almost no noise at all, even when shooting a .4g BB at 388fps.

There are many AS folks who know the technology behind PB guns is WAY beyond what is going on in the AS world. I honestly feel the AS manufacturers like it this way. If you upgrade more than very basic items you have to upgrade a bunch more or the older parts simply dont handle the stress.

Once this thing is finally done and I am happy with it there are 10-15 people who want one. The reliability, simplicity and consistency is something that is sadly missing from Airsoft.

This one is based on the Ion spool valve. I am very tempted to try a poppet valve but the silence of the spool valve is amazing. I wonder thoough with such low PSI would a poppet valve really be that loud? I guess the hammer could have an O-ring on the face or be made of Delrin. It's the crisp metal on metal sound that will give a person away.

Oh, this gun is accurate past 300'. When playing with it I am not allowed to engage any target inside 125'.....

what kind of bolt are you running? maybe you need to reduce the flow of the bolt maybe make some kind of threaded insert with various size holes to use as a restriction plate
