Lathe and milling questions..

Hey there, so lately ive been wanting to buy some kind of milling machine. I have so many ideas that my drill and dremel cannot conplete on their own... I dont want to spend thousands of dollars and go industrial, i just need a small machine that can do tasks higher than a dremel.
My question is that is getting a "cheap" lathe worth it? I was looking at machines under 500$,found the proxxon mf70, is it decent? Also if I do end up getting a machine I would like a master to teach me some tips.

That machine is way to small to do any thing constructive on.You need to step your price range up a tad and go in to at least a seig x2 mill. Cheapest you'll find one is at harbor freight. Mini Mill - 2 Speed Mini Milling Machine

Has a lot more travel then the mf70. Mf70 is what most would call a jewelers mill or PC board micro mill.

I have one of those... They will do the job, but there are better things to be had.

I have been using Sherline equipment for a while now, and like it quite a bit, thought they too have some issues.

If you wish to go the HF mini mill route, consider this thread

Seig X2 Milling Machine, With tooling

The seller is a good guy.

The general rule of thumb I go buy is define your budget then get the largest heaviest one you can afford. You can always do small work with a big machine but the opposite is not always true.

What he said... I would give anything to have more room for heavier machines
