Halfblock on the cheap

I want to halfblock my cocker. The body is an '05, cheap stuff, common, so no HUGE loss if I goof it up. I'm wondering, how would you guys recommend it be done? I've seen JCMs DIY guide, but I don't have a mill. Is a hacksaw, (cheap) drill press, dremel, and some files too little too work with? I just wanna know if its worth the extra cost of sending it out.

As far as internals, I'm planning on getting the WWA/JCM hammer, bolt, bolt pin, etc. so that's easy enough... despite setting me back a ton of cash (90 is a ton? Whew... college is killin me).

Where else could I save weight? I was just feeling ... slow today, and by the end of the day my gun arm was tired. Wood grips, and a hollowed out frame? Mini it? (Does that make much of a difference?) Is there an especially lightweight reg? It already has a minimal front block, Eclipse Dart LPR, CCM 3-way and an ANS mini-ram, so not much weight can be saved there, but I just can't think of anywhere else. And I'm assuming body milling to shave it a bit would be pretty expensive too.

I wouldnt suggest trying it by hand. Ive tried it on a drill press turned mill at home and it was too sloppy to use. I use a big Bridgeport mill and its a breeze. The horizontal cut that the sled rides on is the one that is tough by hand.

If you're not in a huge hurry, I can do it for you pretty cheap. As well as slotting your hammer to save money. I also make the half-block kits, I just dont sell many of them b/c they are time consuming to make.
