New Old School VENTS

Recently myself and some others were prevented from wearing our beloved old school VENTS at an event. Right or wrong I see the writing on the walls and for a while been in search of new up to date goggles to suit me. To this day I've been unable to find current goggles that I like, so since I'm a tinkerer by nature I decided to make something that suits me.

Here are some images of my beloved old school VENTS. There has never been anything made as comfortable since they were run out of business. I have never fogged up in these including during the monsoon of a game for the Fire Fighters benefit.

Well in sake of safety I have not altered/modified the actual goggles or goggle frame so the "ASTM" certification is completely intact. What I've done is modify, adapt, fabricate and decorate the remainder of the mask to suit my comfort, style and taste.

These are my first attempt and I have figured out some better ways of doing this. In addition they are not exactly finished, I still have some hand painting of some of the details to finish fleshing out my camoflague but I was so excited about how they were coming out I thought I'd share

Thanks for looking, comments and suggestions welcome

Without further adue here presented are Modern VENTS Grendel's Way:

I started out with a brand new set of Vents Cylus. I removed all of the face mask, ear and cheek protection. Then I grafted on Old School Vents Face Mask and Soft Foam cheek and ear protection. Finally I gave it all my own version of Tiger Stripe camoflague. The camoflague is not quite done I have some hand brushing to clean it up and help add some depth.

Like you my old school Vents were the best goggles I've ever used. What I did was attach Vents mask parts to Scott goggles. I did this a few years ago. I used to have a picture here in a thread a couple of years ago. Another of our members (Wes?) did the same thing with JT goggles.

God I wish whoever resurrected the Vents name had just copied the originals and had them certified.

Nice, I'm sure it was much more challenging to attach the vents mask to the newer Cylus goggles. The JT conversions are literally a snap on affair. After using both Preds and Rage masks with JT goggles, I've found that the Rage is the better feeling and looking of the two.

Thanks guys I have about 20 man-hours into putting that togather since it was trial and error and I'm going for a 4 color tigerstripe.

The paint is made specifically for plastics. So far it is not cracking even given the twisting I've been doing to test the finish. Not quite done with the paint job though.

The mask is actually attached by multiple layers of 2 part epoxy made for plastics. Then I had to file and sand into a flowing shape to mesh the goggles to the mask.

I agree full heartedly. They fit better and the added little vent slits look cool as well as serve to help expell hot breath.

Very good job. I miss my old Vents...they were some comfy masks. It seems my second favorite mask is headed the same direction as the old Vents. My beloved Flex 7 mask from JT is becoming harder and harder to find parts for. I'm desperately in need of some foam and a new strap, but alas, there aren't any around for a reasonable price or condition.
