glass etching on brass?

hey everyone. I just had a random thought that might have some potential. What if you use a glass etching kit to make a design on a brass marker? Or better yet coat the whole gun to give it a "flat" brass appearance? So do you think it would work, or would the chemicals be too strong or too weak to give the right look? Also do you think you could use the clear coat from duracoat to seal in that freshly polished brass shine, or can it only be applied over paint?

I've never tried glass etching chemicals, I use different sandblasting techneques on my glass and metal etching projects with good results. And yes Duracoat clear can be used by itself.

Considered it myself, and want to hear about any results.

Sandblasting works. As for the chemicals, I'd consider anything that can etch glass to be some pretty harsh stuff.

There are chemicals specifically for etching brass. Both using an electric current and without.

ok, well I think Ill drop the whole glass etching idea and just use some clear matte duracoat. My plan is to basically have a gold and black AmStripe PGP. The gold being the original brass and the black being some leftover duracoat I have from my last project. Then I will coat the whole thing in the flat black clear coat to hopefully keep the brass from varnishing. Ill probably make a new thread once im done.

I may use his brass etching guide to make a picture for my mom. Shes into brass, pewter, and silver. Could be pretty cool. Good practice to etch stuff into my brass toys.
