I found a site with a PDF download for the Hercus Textbook of Turning. I've only glanced through some of it so far but it seems as detailed as Sparey's "The Amateur's Lathe" which means that it's PURE GOLD! ! ! ! ! Get this if you even THINK you'll get a lathe at some point. http://www.bbssystem.com/manuals/Lathe-Tutorial.pdf

I learned initially how to use and maintain/improve a small lathe off an internet guide, before I took any proper schooling for it... paid off too, cause I actually knew a lot of the basics before I went to learn. I still use my bench lathe for all sorts of small stuff, its very accurate now, although not capable of larger jobs (short ways length, puny chuck)

Oh, by the way. To be fair I should mention that this is the same book scan that YoDa999 in the other lathe thread was nice enough to offer. I took a chance that it was out there and struck paydirt. Thanks YoDa!

It should be worth noting that the AGI video courses for both Lathe and Milling machine are out there as torrents too.

That might be where I found it initially, but I've had it for quite a while and couldn't remember where. If people are having trouble reading it, it gets much more legible when you zoom in, the original scan appears to have been at a good enough resolution to allow this without insane pixelation. It looks pretty good up to around 600% zoom. |
