It was hard because all three of us always wanted to pick up a T8 and try it out. But we talked the kid into turning it in. Felt good.

Find the owner, ask if you can try it out.

AKA Fan
December of '01 I was at the gun range with a bunch of guys I worked with. There was a couple of older gentlemen who were shooting a large variety of hand guns and rifles. As is with most days of shooting, we were all having a good time and talking and when the guys got ready to leave they invited out for some drinks afterwards. We kept on shooting as we got ready to clean up I noticed a soft case.

I figured it belonged to one of the guys I was shooting with but when I picked it up, it was heavy. I laid it on the table and inside was a Ruger Mini-14 with three 20rd magazines. Looked brand-spanking new as well. I didn't recall any of my group shooting it, but I asked anyways. The guy I was riding with said he believed the older guys were shooting it. Someone remembered them saying they were going for drinks and we tried to remember where. As we drove back to town, we passed a shopping center that had a small bar tucked back in the corner. We pulled in and found the guys sitting at the bar. They thought we had come for a drink and we asked if they had forgotten something. They actually sat there and did a mental inventory of everything and then had to go look in the back of their truck to see what was missing. He knew right away what it was and was very pleased to get it back. He offered me $60 as a reward. I just handed him his gun and told him to have a Merry Christmas.

For a mini-14, I'd give it back too, CD. Can't stand those guns....

My friend was pretty mad that we forced him to take it back. But I said "If it was your gun would you want someone to return it?".

So did we do the right thing of taking it to lost and found or should we just of let my friend keep it? Thoughts?
Can I ask how old your friend is?

I personally would have reported it, and left my information, but not given it to the field shop. Most of them I have encountered I wouldn't trust with my own gear.
