As far as not much being able to go wrong with spyders, I'm not sure I agree. There's plenty that can go wrong on any simple mechanical blowback. Its' just that, by now, we all know what those things are. And any company worth their salt should keep them from happening out of the box
I would pick up almost anything if it was cheap enough. I would even take one of those exploding brass eagles for free. There might be something usable on it. As far as the e-trigger goes, you could always find someone willing to trade a mechanical trigger for it.
