The one that gets me is people typing it as "2K12". Wait, what?

The old idea of writing it as "2K" did in fact save two extra keystrokes- well, one if you capitalized the K. Then it went to "2K1" for 2001, "2K2" for 2002, etc. Now you're saving just one keystroke- or, again, none if you capitalize the K.

If you capitalize on "2K12", you're actually using more keystrokes to type it rather than just typing 2012.

Sorry, just got caught up in the mood.

Doc.

So why do you capitalize DAM but not DYE? They are both acronyms.

It's almost as annoying as when people use the wrong word in a sentence.

Just to make another point, the annoyance in this case is actually the fault of the manufacturer. It's quite common to refer to a product by the <company name> <product>. For example, Ford Focus. dye actually named this gun the DAM. It's printed right on it. So the manufacturer is actually to blame for including their company name in the name of the product. It is NOT a dye AM (which it probably should be), it is a dye DAM. ... and yes, their brand is dye, not DYE or Dye.

Growing up in L.A. it was always humorous when people spoke of going to 'the La Brea tar pits', which is like saying you are going to 'the the tar tar pits'.

I came here to say this!

I lived in Yuba City for awhile when I moved back to CA. The city government cars have the town symbol on the sides and say 'The City of Yuba City'.
