1) You know how to get ahold of me 2) I have several loud markers that would make great test subjects. 3) I have a red chrono, just let me know if you'd like to use it. 4) Must be slow at the shop eh? 5) Offer thread for the Eclipse Shaft line of barrels. Other than Lapco/Flasc/Freak,etc... It seems like Eclipse is slowly making an edge on barrels due to sheer volume or what not, but imagine a quiet ego? |

I love that you got doc interested... Doc, you may be surprised by the quality of iPhone audio testing apps. I use iPhone apps all the time in pro audio environments. Hell, the cheap Peterson guitar tuner app is easily as accurate as their $300 hardware strobe tuners. Still, one of the radio shack db meters is a steal for as cheap as you found them. They're very good for the price. Anything he's likely to use is probably good enough for this application. As far as length of the can goes, you'll definitely hit a point of diminishing returns. Most likely the freak back and insert will be the stumbling block to getting the most sound reduction.

Had a though to help make this more BATF friendly. Now the rough chamber pressure of a real steel is 15,000 psi, that is on the low side. So was thinking that maybe if I oring the front cap, insted of thread it, That a real round would just blow the core and front cap out. That way it can suppress a fire arm round. We only need it to hold up against 900psi at the most.

The boa barrels I've seen all have o-ringed caps at either end. Works fine, but not sure it'd make much difference to the ATF. Considering we know how it turned out for boa.

| Mad Science of Paintball Join Date: Jul 2011 | -I've always been interested. Heck, I started playing back when you could order these things out of the catalogs! But by the time I finally got my own equipment to be able to make one, I'd learned more about the legality of it- for one thing, Bill over at WARPIG posted a letter from the ATF that was sent specifically as a heads-up to both manufacturers and private owners, that they weren't legal to own or make, regardless of the fact they might be "only" ABS water pipe and a slip-on friction fit. And sorry, but after hearing some of the stories (Ruby Ridge happened because he "only" cut the barrels 1/8" too short) it's my opinion that until a solid, unequivocal ruling is issued, it's not worth risking having my house ransacked, my tools and computers confiscated, and being dragged into court. Doesn't mean I can't offer up a little technical advice, though. ![]() As I said earlier, I'd love to build one myself. There's no real secret behind it, it's just a tube with baffles. The only trick is to see how efficient you can make it- either by making the smallest possible tube that still does the job, or whatever arrangement gives the most reduction possible. But heck, some reduction can be done with a toilet paper tube and some duct tape. ![]() I'll be happy to help, for what little knowledge I can offer, but to be honest, there's no way in hell I'd actually order one from either maker, especially through as public a venue as this. Doc.

Point taken, and you're probably right, Doc. Cops don't usually hunt the guys DOWN the ladder, though. I'd just love to see a REALLY nice paintball silencer for once. Aluminum, threaded, with a core made of something I don't use to wash my dishes? That bounce as really nice to me.

I personally believe that the ATF has better things to do. Now I could see if the ones I made were popping up on real steel then ok. Also think that eventually they will have to step back on it. If they are going to be that strict they need to outlaw all pipe, tubing, mufflers, pillows, pop bottles, Pringle cans, you get the point. Cases start opening up to question a rediculous laws then they will have to addressed. Suprised we dont have to get a tax stamp for cars as a any other weapon.
