Feedback Request: Custom Color Plastic Grips for Vintage Pumpers.

I've been studying the process of casting parts out of both plastic and metal and I am now almost fully set up to cast plastic parts, Grip Panels in particular. However it was pointed out to me that I cannot mearly cast copies of the original grips for legal reasons. Making an original master is really not a big problem but if I'm going to go to that much trouble I might as well make them better than the originals.

What changes would you like to see made to the original grips for Sheridan, Daisy (Nelspot, other pumpers), Brass Eagle, and Crosman 3357 grip panels?

Also what colors or special finishes would interest you? Metallic? Metal Flake? Transparent colors (Jelly's) Clear? Swirled colors? How about an imbedded brass or aluminum medallion that you could engrave yourself?

I've already invested several hundred in plastic casting supplies and I will have to spend another two hundred or so to go further with this project. If there is no interest I would rather stop now and cut my loses. Below is an image of some early grips that are just copies of the originals.

I would really like to see some nelspot battle grips casted and a battle pump. As far as changing, what would you have to do? ie add a few more grip bumps? Would you have to ask Glenn Palmers permission since I'm told his hand molded the battle pump? What are you charging? I would like a pair of 45 grips with Marine Corps emblems and US Army emblems in them. This could be a good thing. I hope there is alot of intrest.

hmmm.. I see the need to change them some, can you just get away with putting someones logo on them? or would that be alot of work for limited runs on these... I was thinking maybe offering PGPOG and some of the other owner groups a shot at running with their logo's on them... just a thought

Couldn't copy Palmer's Battle Grips and Pump for the same reason I can't duplicate the factory originals. I COULD make a wrap around grip and and organically styled pump, they just couldn't be duplicates of the Palmer offerings.

The logo medallion idea is good. I suppose I could cast brass medallions for specific organizations. Only way I would want to do this is if there was a group buy. A lot of work would go into making the master, only worth while if it was going to be used to make a run of grips.

Im happy to hear your going to be doing this.

If its not unreasonable.. i suggest casting in that unique style plastic that lapco grips and PPS hard blazer grips are made out of.

What if you ask Glenn? Also Since the company has been out of business for a while, isn't there a time frame? Nelspot thru the grip co2 would be nice.

Doubt Glenn would approve of me directly copying any of his products. As for the other grip panels only one that is positively out of production is the 3357 panels which Crosman no longer makes or has in stock for replacement. They probably wouldn't get too bent out of shape by someone selling replacements. But Daisy and Sheridan are still making their grip panels and I believe Crosman is still making a BB gun that uses the same grips as the vintage Brass Eagle markers. It depends a lot on the companies attitude. Some companies may not care, others might pursue it aggressively.

I will definately look into making a Nelspot grip that allows changing the 12 gram through the grip. I don't think Glenn would object to that.

Well those battle grip are already on the market (nelson type). The company that makes them I think are out of business. I don't think glenn designed those. Oh well whatever you come up with I'm sure will be nice.
