DAM - Breach breaks with Halo?
Anyone else having problems using force fed hoppers? I tried my halo again...I got two balls off before it broke one in the breach. I broke everything down, field stripped it, swapped it over for someone's prophecy...same thing...maybe ten rounds, then soup.

It seems to do better with gravity fed which makes me thing there's something wrong with the eye pipe. The detents looked solid, and everything goes together fine. I'm going to swap over to all the spare parts I have and see if it changes this weekend...if not it's probably going to end up going back to DYE.

Real shame to, I hauled it out and everyone was stoked to see one, wanted to shoot it, etc. Only to have it behave like a $50 walmart pos. Not a great way to sell more DAMs.

Did you not use the mag fed option? I've heard similiar stories of some markers that are just finnicky with certain loaders. Eg: Using a sound activated loader on a very quiet marker] Something like that. I might be wrong. Does anyone know how the halo detects balls?

The mag fed option is for first strike, the hopper is for the regular stuff. That's the whole reason I bought the marker...otherwise what's the point? Plenty of other cheaper mag fed options out there....

Different Halos use different mechanisms. Mine is a Halo B circa 2004; it uses a break beam eye. It's loading fine (my concern is it might be loading too aggressively for the DAM), and it works fine on my automag...the problem is most definitely with the DAM doing something funny in the breach, not the loader failing to keep up, remember the DAM has eyes, it won't fire partially loaded.

Cleaning it again tonight I noticed that the bolt actually rests really far back, anyone else's DAM look like this?

Here's my mag (bolt in the cocked position) for reference (no roll back to speak of):

So the above picture was a nice theory, but I ended up replacing the detents with one so bowed inward I thought it was broken....happy DAM now. I think a rotor with the adjustable torque is probably my next major investment.

Quick follow up, since there were some negatives on that initial review.

Got to play at a local big game this weekend (DBS "Stalingrad") and had a blast. Gun worked flawlessly, with an older Halo-B, up until I loaned it out for the last round of the that point it got the first breach break of the day, but that may have been operator error...somehow.

Anyways...the long and the short of it is, it's a great modern semi, but I've had the teething problems typical of a brand new marker. Nothing I can really hold against DYE. Breach breaks they do on any non-stacked tube...but it's as fast as you want it to be, and quiet. A bit of a gas hog. In short, a spool valve. Oh..and it shoots first strike :)

what were you getting for a shot count? what size tank were you using?

I wasn't keeping very tight track, but it seemed on par with the hustle paintball youtube review. I had a 68cui usually getting around 3k fills, probably shooting around 500 to 600 rounds in a game, coming back in with not much left in the tank.

That is definitely not right. Is the eye pipe installed correct? It may be backwards.

Sterling500 02-12-2013 01:24 PM

Are you referring to the ball position?

The eye pipe can't be installed backwards since it is geared on the dam. Also I confirmed on the dam operators group that other owners are seeing the same thing on their dams.

I was able to get 165-170 shots off a 13/3000 tank. shooting around 265-270 fps
