The idea was that the soft rubbery cover would induce bounces versus breaks when you got shot in the hopper. Otherwise it is just ribbed for your pleasure. Can't say they were the bomb, but as a product it did bomb.

I believe it was, some speed ball players would come into the shop and their tanks would have this on it.

i had one back in the day, they weren't even soft at all and the tie down holes ripped pretty easily.

the only thing good about them was that you could reinforce up your cheapo plastic 100rnd hoppers
