Cheers fellow riders, made the mistake of demo riding a goldwing at bike week 2011 with the Mrs. riding along. I do quite a bit of motorcycle touring, for that purpose the goldwing is a gem. I bought early though, 44 here.

Finally! Someone on a Goldwing with something other than a thin T-shirt, and an open helmet.

Whats the performance like on the Nightster - I assume a 1200. My 919 has a LOT of performance that I never touch because I have no desire to bounce down the road. I have been toying with going to a 1200 Nighster but am slightly worried I will be on the low end of what I like. I seldom do even 80 but do not want to feel underpowered on hills

Really? I can't remember ever seeing a Goldwing rider without full gear. Around here, it's all the hog riders and the occasional crotch rocket riders jumping out of the gene pool.

Yeah same. The Goldwing riders in my area are all in Tourmaster hi-vis gear with their 3/4 helmets and headsets.

I see them all the time on the highways and downtown. Colossal Squids everywhere...

God, I hate squids. A guy a few houses down rides some ridiculous 'custom' chopper, it looks like an old '90s Harley that someone bukakke'd chrome and metallic flake all over, and he constantly rides in either a t-shirt or wife beater, jeans and running shoes. And, of course, not just a skull-bucket, but a cheap skull-bucket with DOT sticker. (You can tell because he leaves the helmet on the bike all the time, and it's peeling off)

I kinda want to knock him off just on principle. I wonder if there's any statistical data about the number of deaths and injuries to properly-equipped riders vs squids.

EDIT: The reason there aren't any squids on Goldwings up here is that the only people riding those big cruisers are people passing through on highway trips. And there are TONS of them. Literal mobs of people moving through town on cruisers and big enduros on bike trips. Mid July, you can't throw a rock without hitting someone from the southern USA on a Honda Goldwing, Kawasaki KLR650 or a BMW R1200 or G650.

I live in a beach town, so we see a lot of people riding along the water. So many squids in this town.

There's lots of riders in my area, and I seem to be the only non-BMW/Goldwing rider that wears ATGATT.

A friend of my son's wants to trade his '74 Suzuki GT185 2-stroke street bike for my '82 XJ550 project bike; he likes to fix up old bikes then flip them for new projects.
After a little research I'm tempted to take him up on it...looks fun and obnoxious (like me).

Anyone have suggestions for riding pants and gloves? I have a full face helmet, boots and a riding jacket with armor. But I still ride in jeans. Need to fix that.
