GMC vs Chevy... differences?

In my life, my dad has owned a Chevy Blazer, Astro and S-10. My dad isn't a car god, but he is very mechanically inclined so he is capable of simple maintenance, but all his Chevy vehicles have fallen apart.

His S-10 has the same reoccurring problem (I forget what, I don't do cars) and he is fed up with it so he wants to ditch it and get a GMC pick up.

Is there any major difference between GMC and Chevy? I would assume not and my mechanic friend tells me there isn't. What do you guys know about it? I personally think he's crazy to get a GMC vehicle after so many Chevy issues.

No mechanical differance, just some trim and interior comfort options on newer trucks, for the most part, they are identical aside from badging and flashy stuff.

This is true...mechanically speaking Chevrolet's are GMC's.

Honestly though I do like my GMC...Although it does have it's drawbacks which I wont mention in order not to start a truck vs truck war...
If the GMC I bought wasent so darn inexpensive I'da never bought it, Ford FTW!!!

There is no mechanical difference between two similarly equipped trucks. GMC / Chevy at least.

gmc and chevy are owned by Gerenal Motors or for those that are political Goverment motors.

The only difference between GMC and Chevy is luxury, GMC is more of a more expensive and luxurious Chevy

Yeah, pretty much what everybody else is saying. They're practically the same. Although me and a couple other guys drive Chevy trucks and have had few to no problems

They're the same across the platform. Anything under GM for example you have the GMC Jimmy/Chevy Blazer/Oldsmobile Bravada.

Ford did the same with Ford/Lincoln/Mercury and Mazda can even be thrown in there. Ford Ranger/Mazda B series.

The differences lie in the trim packages and very few other differences. I know in regards to the Ranger/B series one at one point had an iron block while the other was aluminum. That's one of the bigger differences I've seen.
