The show originated in the mid to late 70's. Scared the HELL out of me then. I think now they should just leave the kids pver night and see how tough they really are

Sucks bc this method of prevention doesn't work

This show was a discussion in my criminal justice class

It seems like it works for some, though the results are debatable and I've yet to see any real long term follow up. Checking in a month later doesn't give you much to go on.

I know seeing the inside of a prisons walls was enough to keep me in line, and I wasn't even part of one of those programs. I just went on a guided tour when I signed up for extra summer school courses to have something to do.

being friends with cops I've been on tours of our local denention center to get an idea of what it's like for someone in there. One thing to see it on TV another to see it in person. I'm a pretty straight laced law abiding type of guy and I don't do anything that would cause me to end up there but I figured let's give myself just one more reason to stay on this side of the bars please and thanks.

I don't know about a great show, but its a pretty easy way for some of the inmates to get time off of their sentence for good behavior. "Hey crazy Larry, you want 3 months off your stay? Scare the living bejesus out of the kid were bringing in this afternoon."

Tell me why I had to be a powerslave.
I don't wanna die, I'm a god, why can't I live on?
When the Life Giver dies, all around is laid waste.
And in my last hour,
I'm a slave to the power of death.

They don't get any extra time off their sentence. If they are in their with a sentence that has parole, then that fact is introduced to the parole board that does their hearing, but if they are doing 15 years, and the good behavior program will give them credit of one day for every two that they serve, provided that they don't do anything to loose it, like get in trouble for contraband, or fighting, then they will do something 10 or so years. Doing the show won't make it 9 years and 9 months.

Tom Dubois: Earliest I could get out would be on Monday.
Huey Freeman: Well, its just the weekend.
Tom Dubois: It only takes one night to get anally raped! Huey, the
only way for me to get out of here is if you find to the real
killer tonight.
Huey Freeman: The real killer? Nigga, Im 10! How am I gonna find the
real killer?
Tom Dubois: Please! Youve gotta try!
Huey Freeman: All right, all right, all right. Damn.
Tom Dubois: [sobbing] Thank you, Huey. Whatever you do, dont tell my
baby Jazmine! I dont know want her to know her daddy was
somebodys biiiiiiiiiitch!
Jazmine Dubois: Was that Daddy? Where is he? Is he OK? Was he
kidnapped by terrorists?
Huey Freeman: Um, your father wants you to know hes nobodys bitch.
[Jazmine sobs hysterically]
Quote:
Thomas Lancaster DuBois, a wealthy and mild-mannered black man, is an assistant district attorney and close friend of Robert Freeman. Tom, being non-confrontational and skittish by nature, adheres strictly to the law, particularly due to his irrational fear of being sent to prison and anally raped[1]. This fear originated when Tom was exposed at a very young age to a television series that depicted a violent prison rape. The fear developed to such a degree that Tom refused to participate in even the slightest of legal infractions (even those that are not punishable by a prison sentence) as a youth and throughout adulthood. His job as a prosecuting attorney is ironic: He essentially sends other people (mostly black men) to the fate he himself most fears, and he seems to feel guilty about it. Tom is ultimately forced to confront his phobia in the third season episode A Date With the Booty Warrior, where he comes face to face with a rapist after being trapped in a prison washroom during a riot. Tom seemingly conquers his fear after beating the would-be rapist unconscious with a bar of soap (after he slipped and fell on his back), and also mentions to Sarah that he plans on becoming a public defender in order to save young men from being violated in prison.

Oh I just find the show entertaining I don't know how effective it is. It does seem to be hit and miss though. I just like some of crap that the inmates yell at the kids I think it's funny

Yeah it reminds me of that episode as well as the episode of home movies where Brendan and his friends got put through the program except it turned out to be like depters prison or something. And inmates couldn't get their made up story right
