Which story line is this supposed to follow? It certainly doesn't match the Jack Ryan from the books.

Ah hollywood... screwing up books left and right.

I wouldn't know. But you know how hollywood is, anything to make a buck, or a million.

I gotta pick up some of his books.

Did not even put two and two together until you posted that. I figured it was some book I hadn't yet read.

So not complete spoiler material, but a good timeline of Jack Ryan as a book character:
Jack Ryan (character) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As best as I can remember, Jack Ryan did some covert work, but never any direct action or wet work. In fact I think the only times he ever used a gun was in self defense. Clancy built other characters into the plot lines like the husband and wife team of CIA employees that Ryan works with while in Russia and in later books and the Clark character that did the overt and wet work.

While I'm sure Clancy sanctioned this film, it seems to be an alternative parallel path to the Jack Ryan in the books.

I'm sure the movie will be entertaining, but it won't follow the books.

Jack Ryan is supposed to be an analyst, he rarely did field work, and he was certainly not a field agent...That was all Clark and the Foleys. He did end up in the field a bunch of times, but almost always in an advisory kind of way. Not that he always stayed that way...

Based on the trailer, it looks like a mix of Debt of Honor (economic attack, sounded like), Red Rabbit/Cardinal of the Kremlin (shades of MP Foley, perhaps), and then some new stuff to turn Jack Ryan into James Bond.

Boooo.....

I am a huge fan of the Jack Ryan Universe. Love the scope of the books, the storyline, and the characters. I liked the movie Hunt for Red October. It was fairly close to the book. The other movies have no resemblance to Clancy's novels. I stopped paying attention when Ben Affleck showed up

If I see this (doubtful) I will try an enjoy it as a movie that has nothing to do with Clancy's novels. I saw a promo that had Jack Ryan on a motorcycle That would never happen in the books.

it looks more like the story line for jack jr. where he was learning to do field/wet work from clark and ding for the campus.

This is pretty much what I was thinking based on the trailer.

I absolutely dare Hollywood to do Executive Orders and keep to the actual story line.
