| Endearingly quirky | I ordered a couple pipes from Turkish Meerschaum Pipes - Welcome. When they arrive I'll figure out what to do with em.

| Seasoned Member | I'm considering picking up a meerschaum myself. I mix my blends, depending on how they smoke (some smoke better as the bottom layer, but not so well as part of the top layer, etc.), so it'd be neat to see what kind of colors I'd get in a meerschaum. I've discovered a nice blend, Tinder Box's Reserve 1928. It's nice, but a bit dry on my mouth (and in AZ that's not always pleasant), so I usually use it as a middle layer, since it smokes pretty cool, and when passing through some of the other blends, it has this nice spicy hint to it.

Got pics of the tobacco burning in one of those? Would be neat to see, kind of like seeing a paintball fire through a glass tube: we always see the output, but not always what's going on between the input and the output. But, please folks, no hinted references of using other substances in pipes legal or otherwise. This is the pipe TOBACCO smoker's thread after all. Does anyone have any tips on how best to promote cake development in their briar pipes? I am having a hard time developing the cake in the heel of my bowl. It's like it's kind of bare there, but I can't really smoke the last bit, as it's mostly just hot ash, and if I draw on it enough to get smoke, I often get a nice hot bit of ash as well on the tounge.....not pleasant. Thus, one reason I'm considering getting a meerschaum (though their fragility is something that's making me hesitant, as is the fact that if I'm not careful, I could wear away the wax coating just by holding it with my fingers). Also, since I live in the desert, I sometimes don't get just tounge bite, but MOUTHE bite, and I KNOW I'm smoking the pipe right. But if the smoke is too dry, it really irritates my mouth. Anyone have any comments on that? Should I just stick to more arromatic blends that hold moisture better, or what?
