Pest Problem ?

I live in an 1880's farm house out in the country. The wildlife is just part of every day life.I have had a chickensnake living in the farm house for about ten years, we have reached an agreement that seemed to work for both of us.If you have chicken snakes you don't have rattle snakes.I have noticed for the last month that the snake sounded different as he moved through the walls of the house, and the family of groundhogs are no longer living under the house.Last night I came home to a four foot eastern diamondback at my back door, he seems to have taken up residence in my house.Explains what happened to the groundhogs.
Anyone have a suggestion on how to get rid of the snakes without destroying the house?

If you have a county animal control agent call them. They may be able to get you the help you need. What about a zoo? I don't know how far from one you live. Could always contact local law enforcement. Usually they can get you the help you need as well.

I have always lived out in the country and we genrally use moth balls under the house in the cabinets and so forth and that has helped to a degree to ward off snakes from coming in the house...

Actually, some .22 shot shells from Wallmart and a cheap semi .22 would be good. That or a .410 with birdshot... Honestly, it's the solution because it solves the problem. You can't fault that logic, right?

Anyway, if you're not a registered gun owner, try the Viper Express BB shotgun. It's one of the most fun BB guns I've bought in a long time, break action and plenty powerful, with a decent spread.

Tongs

I use one these...

Please forgive the sloppy assembly, I had to get it done for use quickly. It really does work, and work well.

If you choose the non-lethal approach, please be very careful. Remember that catching them is the easy part. A rattlesnake bite probably won't kill you if you get medical attention, but the limb will never be the same.

As for getting rid of the snakes... Clear wood piles, knock down high grass with a weed eater, board up or otherwise secure crawlspace access, etc. If you take away the habitat, they'll go away on their own. Remember though: if you've seen one snake, there's a good chance there's a couple more that have already taken up residence somewhere on the property.

Snakes + guns = no snakes.....you do the math....always worked for me.

Good snake myth...Good snake around doesn't always mean a bad snake isn't.......Just means they don't like each other.
