Thanks for the encouragment gentlmen.

I have heard the same studies referred to above that switching down is not effective, but my personal experiance tells me otherwise. I have switched from a cig. containing 0.9 mg nicotine and 11 mg "tar" to one with 0.4mg nicotine and 0.4 mg "tar" and I assure you that I can already feel the difference.

To me it is similar to going on a diet. If you starve yourself, you are bound to relapse - often fatter than you were before. But cutting back just a little...that's a different story.

So, no one here smokes Triumph cigarettes?

I quit the same way Keith... just kept going down. Went from Camel wide menthol, to regulars, to 100's, to marlboro lights, light 100's utra lights, and then ultra light 100's. When you get to the UL 100's, after a week or so you will light one, look at it, and try and figure out why the hell you even bother.

Cutting back is still cutting back whether it is less per day or less tar and nicotine. Hope it works for you.

When I went from Marlboro Reds to Marlboro Lights I just smoked more.

Now I'm using "Life Sign" to quit so you are not alone.

Keep up the good work.

I'm using the influence of friends and family to cut my use.

I stopped smoking about 14 years ago. From a family of 6, we had 5 smokers. We now have 0 smokers including my mother who smoked 2 packs a day for 40 years.

I went cold turkey with the patch - I accidently got the one for the 2 pack a day person and was on a nicotine high for about 3 days.

I tried lots of times to stop and failed but each time brought me closer to stopping.

It's possible, lots of people do it and so will you.

Good luck and remember to enjoy how much better your food tastes when you stop.

Acupuncture worked for me twice even when I wasn't ready to quit. Third time went cold turkey in a group of non-smokers for 6 weeks and that did it for me.

The acupuncture thing is freaky tasting all the nicotine purging from your body at once. The nicotine addiction is gone the mental habit is all that has to be broken.

Accupuncture is an interesting thing. It has helped me for other stuff in the past.

I would say that the best way to quit is to surround yourself with friend that will give you endless crap for smoking. When I was home for break, I smoked maybe a pack the whole 5 days.

Tastes like your chewing on a tin foil ball for a couple hours afterwards as your body purges.

Strangest part is the treatment is done with your ears.

God bless if that worked for you. If that were me, it would only lead to violence and having less friends.
