Interesting gas price info

Listening to the radio today, I heard a breakdown of current profits on gas.

out of the ~$3.00 average a gallon, the oil companies make $0.07 a gallon, and $0.69 goes to state and federal taxes.

Figure in the rest towards refining (IIRC, $0.45) and other processes that take to get it from a barrel to your car.

Next time some politician gets on and starts complaining about "big oil" how about we start asking them about "big pork"?

Where did this information come from? I don't trust what I hear on TV or Radio until it can be verified. I don’t know if I trust those numbers….

He's right... Well.. Kind of. The oil company's markup is about 9%, (not sure about .07, I'd assume higher and just read it was 9% in the paper), which isn't outrageous of a corporate markup.

State and Fed tax for new hampshire is .42 cents.

Glenn Beck had it on his show, and have heard similar numbers before 9only heard much higher on the tax end)

Same as Cigarettes pretty much... Company makes pennies, taxes take dollars.

I've pretty much decided that the phrases, "To protect the children," and "For the public health," are code for "We've figured out another way to steal your money."

according to a cnn, the federal government has put in a requirement for a certain percentage of methanol to be in the fuel. Now this complicates things twofold. ! you have to truck methanol, since it is more volatile and cannot be piped, and 2 there hase been strict tarrifs on methanol since the 1970s. so they once again play both sides of the fence

One of the reasons for the high cost is already because of the custom mixtures... Ever area of the country needs a different blend... or so the gov says.

Thus raising up the cost again, because a refinery cant just make 20 million gallons of gas, they need to make 5 mil of this kind of gas, switch and make 4mil of that kind...
