First define expensive.

For light semi I'd say xvalved micro or ule mag. Especially with the carbon fiber grip frame. If you look used they are fairly reasonable and will definately give the most Bang for your buck.

For an e gun the mini, though they are a bit pricey.

An e gripped spyder would not be a bad way to go either as they can be had DIRT cheap and will preform quite well. Or even a nice mech spyder as it will be lighter still.

How about any of the ICD guns? I've got a 2004 BKO and it's fairly light, takes 'Cocker barrels, and seems to be really well built. I've not had a chance to play with it yet, though. With a good inline reg. and a small HPA tank (45 ci) or a remote line, it may fit the bill. I mean, they're out of production now, so you won't be able to find one new, but used they're crazy cheap. In fact, even B2K's are pretty cheap nowadays. If you can find one of those with PDS ("eyes"), I think she'd be set. I think all the ICDs made in 2004 & later are 'Cocker threaded, but don't quote me on that.

If you'd prefer to stay away from electros and/or HPA-only guns, the older ICD blowbacks are built like little paintball-spewing tanks. Someone was selling NIB Alley Cats for $100 recently and you can often find them used for well under that. They've got unique barrel threads, so barrel selection is a bit limited, but that's probably not a huge concern.

Bottom line: I'd take anything ICD over an Ion.

What about an F-1 Illustrator? They're light as hell.

Exactly what I wanted to hear... I had totally forgotten about the ICD electros. I think I might just go with that. They're made in America right?

It's a little more expensive but its similiar to an ION in weight, Promaster by ICD might be a good idea.

Get her an F4 illustrator on eBay for like $25 + shipping.

Where is that...

Ah, here you go

Only problem is, you'll end up wanting to borrow it from her!

Personally I've found the quality of the ICD electros to be somewhat lacking.I'd recommend either an Ion or you could try the Dangerous Power Fusion (both of which I have). The Fusion is relativly new and functions similar to the Promaster/BKO only with better quality parts. If you want to check one out. www.dangerouspower.com

My girlfriend started with the same dilemma. She is a little girl, and started by shooting an E-spyder with a 16 oz co2. It was heavy for her, but she stuck with it. Then as she decided it was time for her own gun, she came to the point where she had to decide if she wanted a cheap momentary jump in her game, or something that would last a long time, and always build her skills. She picked up a pink and black acid wash Phantom, and hasnt looked back at the Pink Ion she thought about getting.

(oh, and I may have helped her make that decision a bit... I told her I would help pay for half of the Phantom, but if she chose the Ion she was on her own )
