custom wood grips for MR1

Here's some pictures of the wood grips I worked up for my MR1...

The main group is a set made from reclaimed early 1900s vintage fir flooring. The finish is simply three coats of clear lacquer to retain the natual beauty and colouring of the wood. They're almost identical in size and shape to the stock rubber grips (they're a great size for my hand), but with slight modification to where the front peak which divides the top two fingers from the lower two is located on each panel.

The last picture is of another set made from carbonized, vertically-laminated bamboo. Again, only clear lacquer for the finish - but the thirsty bamboo required a minimum six coats to achieve satisfactory results. Note: what appears to be a scorch mark on the panel (this wood burns easily when being sanded w/ power tools) is actually a portion of the wood's "knuckles".

Anyone interested in a set for the MR1 (no electros as water-tightness cannot be garaunteed) should feel free to contact me. If you're looking for something that fits your hand better than the stock shape, I can make most changes you might require, including thickness, shape(s), etc.

As far as similar grips for other guns goes, at this point you'd have to send me your grips so I can get the pattern and shape before I could go ahead.

That's some very nice old growth fir. The tight ring spacings give it away.

And a nice job on the shaping as well.

Good job. If you use a sander-sealer prior to putting on a finish, the wood doesn`t soak up the finish so bad.
