Aww, Harb! Dragons of Autumn Twilight. I remember loving that one when I read it years ago. I'm a nerd.

Between Dog and Wolf by Jessica Addams and Andrew Miller. Very interesting so far.

Nicomachean Ethics, thick, but the more I read it and reflect on it, it makes sense and makes you think a lot more than usual.

I finished my Darrell Hammond book this weekend and started reading, Planet of the Apes by Pierre Boulle.

Written in 1963, it was the book that first started the 1968 Planet of the Apes movie starring Charlton Heston and all the other "Apes movies" which followed. The book has started out differently than the movie. Apparently it has a different plot.

The author, Pierre Boulle, also wrote The Bridge Over the River Kwai. It was also made into a movie in 1957 starring Alec Guinness (Obi-Wan from Star Wars).

Anyway I read, The Bridge Over the River Kwai several years ago and really enjoyed it. And I recently found out that Boulle had also written the Planet of the Apes, which I also enjoyed all those movies. Seriously, who didn't like the Planet of the Apes movie. So I had to get a copy of this and read it.

Clear the Bridge! : The War Patrols of the U.S.S. Tang - by Richard O'Kane

Rear Admiral Richard Hetherington “Dick” O'Kane (February 2, 1911 – February 16, 1994) was a United States Navy submarine commander in World War II, who received a Medal of Honor for his service on the USS Tang (SS-306). Having also served on the near legendary USS Wahoo (SS-238), as Executive Officer (XO) and 'Approach Officer', he participated (directly) in more successful attacks on Japanese shipping than any other fighting submarine officer during the war.

This is his story and that of the USS Tang, one of the most successful submarines operating in the Pacific. O'Kane was one of a new breed of submarine skippers who traded caution for results with great success, but at huge risks. One of the most effective tactics was to take the surfaced submarine into the middle of Japanese convoys at night, attacking multiple ships and then escaping to the depths.

An excellent read [~70% thru the book], he also wrote an earlier work Wahoo that is just as good.

The Primal Blueprint - by Mark Sisson

Combining modern genetic science and evolutionary biology, The Primal Blueprint dispels a number of the myths that modern medicine and conventional wisdom have come to accept as fact. Author Mark Sisson takes the reader on a fascinating journey through human evolution, comparing the life and robust health of our hunter-gatherer ancestors with a day in the life of a modern family - exposing potential health issues that arise from trying to do the right things living in the 21st century.

Most definitely a book to read and follow up with some of the suggested readings within. I've read it two times now and got more out of it the second time. This book is instrumental in me losing >40lbs since last June and general improvement of my overall health [just had my annual physical and have had large improvements in my blood tests]. Now as soon as I can finish some physical therepy I will be able to put more of the exercise part of the blueprint to work.

Just finished Harry Turtledove's Colonization: Second Contact, which is the first in his Colonization series. It's the 2nd trilogy of two (plus an extra book) where Turtledove explores the idea of "what if aliens invaded the Earth in the middle of WW2?" Colonization is set in the '60/70's after the aliens have been on the planet for 20-odd years. Pretty interesting stuff, Turtledove does excellent alternate history fiction, because he knows his history and does his research.

Now I'm on Cherie Priest's Ganymede, the latest book in her Clockwork Century series. I'm about halfway through, and it's as good as her other ones in this series (though the 2nd book, Clementine, is definitely the weakest, so far). For you zombie lovers out there - the zombies are not just in Seattle anymore, and are becoming a huge problem in the Big Easy.

Harb - thumbs up for the Gibson and the Dragonlance, both are classics of geekdom literature. The wife is currently reading Salvatore's Icewind Dale trilogy, as she was looking for a new book, and I've been on a D&D kick lately.
