"Smart Bin" storage bin

Like a lot of you I buy big plastic storage bins for storage (or course) and also to carry around a bunch of paintball stuff to the field.

Also, like many of you have found out yourselves, the $20 bins don't tend to last long. I'm not rough on my stuff and yet I've destroyed a couple in my time.

The other day I was at Wal Mart in between the automotive / sporting goods area when I spotted a nicely made storage bin called the "Smart Bin" by Greene Horizon. I can't find any real information on the web about this company or their products, but the bin claims it's made in Canada from recycled material.

It's 49 gallons, and the label says it's 40" x 24.5" x 18"...although my rough inside measurement was closer to 35" x 19 x 16 of completely open space.

It cost approximately $45, which to me seems more than reasonable for something of this size and quality. I weigh 240 lbs and I can stand on the lid no problem. In fact it barely dents when I do.

The only thing about the bin that seems a little weak may be the hinge. Indeed, one of the lids at the store had a broken tab on it already however, there is a sticker on the inside of the lid with specific directions on how to assemble the lid to the box, and I suspect if you don't do it correctly you can break the hinge easily...hence the need for a sticker.

There are 3 molded in handles on either side, and a hole for a lock.

Even the color is nice

Now for the pictures...

Note the strengthening rib that fit inside the lid:

A view from the underside of a strengthening "ring" that runs around the entire box:

More strengthening ribs on the inside of the lid:

An inside view of 1 of the 2 hinges:

The inside of the box:

Underneath the box. Pretty decent molded "feet":

Using a 'Cocker as a measuring stick:

Normal trunk...no...unless it is 4ft x 4.5ft x 2ft! Heck three will take up most of a truck bed.
