im gonna disagree on the drake and lil wayne comments. they are both legit. their lyrics are pretty dope. the fact that they go mainstream with their beats makes them a little annoying but for the most part they are really good.

Fan of EMR
80's and early 90's Hip Hop is the absolute best. Gangsta Rap is just hate and exploitation, 99% of it just completely sucks, there are very few exceptions.

Some stuff on my iPod, if you ever make it to EMR you'll hear these out my Ghettoblaster.

A lot of gangster rap depends on the rapper. A good rapper owns the words he says. Ice Cube is an amazing rapper not because of his lyrics, but because he owns every single word he says and has so much authority over them and articulates so well. Some gangster rap is stupid though. I think truthfully, Wu-Tang Clan was originally a lot more gangster than NWA. Ice Cube went to college. I'm pretty sure a couple guys from Wu-Tang were hitting the meth.

De la Rocha is a really good lyricist. He's one of my favorite rappers, but not the best... but still sick. I love RATM. I guess some people don't like what he's rapping about, but at the end of the day it's still vowels and consonants. I've always considered this to be Zach's best, the ending is raw power:

As for Drake and Lil Wayne, I can't get into them. I hate Drake with a passion. His voice just pierces me. Lil Wayne on the other hand has some songs I really like. I can't remember the song, but I remember the line, "trapped behind xanax bars" which was a cool one.

Don't listen to rap much, but I do have a bit of oldschool stuff on my compy. I will say, though, I love the Beastie Boys. So random.

Old school is nice, but my favorite is oldest school

Lighntnin' Rod(Jalal Numidin of the Last Poets) put out a great hip hop album in 1973...

Hustler's Convention!

YouTube - ‪Lightnin' Rod - Sport‬‏

The whole disc just kills!
