Question Stabilizers?

OK so I'm back with what is probably a stupid question:
What is meant by a stabilizer?
Is this the same as an expansion chamber?
How do stabilizers affect the performance of a marker?

Thanks for putting up with the newbie questions!

Stabilizers allow control for consistent pressure of whatever gas you use, so you don't get velocity spikes and jumps. They also filter out CO2 better then any expansion chamber ever can. Expansion chambers just allows C02 to expand so liquid CO2 has less of a chance to get into your gun, but it does nothing to try and regulate the gas going into your gun.

A Stabilizer refers to a Palmers Pursuit Shop brand regulator

palmer-pursuit.com

It regulators air pressure, essentially.

Most people talk about stabilizers most of the time because they are kind of the reg to use for general use. There are plenty of Low pressure regulators out there, but none quite as universal as the stabilizer.

The above link is good.

Question

OK so stabs and regs are essentially the same thing. Got that.

Now in the link they talk about setting a 2ND downline (i think that is the correct term) stab at a lower pressure so as not to starve the gun of air.
My next question is how would you figure out what pressures to set things at?

To be a little more relavent
I shoot HPA mostly. 72/3200 Not a LPR on the bottle so out put is somewhere around 800 correct?
How much lower can you go from that and not adversly affect the gun operation?
How difficult is it to swap stab/regs in and out of a marker (at home)?

What kind of gun? With HPA, you only really need one Stab. Your tank already has one regulator. Two regs is ideal, three is overkill.

72/3000s are generally single preset outputs of either 800 or 850 PSI.

You generally want about a 200psi difference or more between regulators. So if your gun runs at 400 psi, you go from 3000 input (tank to tank regulator) to 850 (tank regulator to marker high pressure regulator) to 400psi.

If you're on an automag, they have a built in regulator. With HPA, don't grab a stab.

Swapping regs, aside from mags, should be easy, a matter of unscrewing the old one, generally your foregrip, and screwing in the new one, and reattaching airlines (you may need new ones depending on the size and input locations of the regulators, old vs new) Then air up, and adjust. I generally recommend you back out the new regulator, air up, and screw in until you achieve the desired pressure

If you are running HPA on an automag, that's two regulators. Would a third regulator (e.g., inline) serve any purpose or be overkill?

Ti would be overkill, the AGD reg is better than the PPS one, IMHO, but it is a common mod to gut the reg internals and run a sideline stabilizer, supposed to be better if you run CO2.

I'm running a Piranah GTI.
I guess i was a little unclear when saying a "second downline reg/stab".
I meant one in addition to the bottle rgulator.

How do you determine the markers operating pressure?
