| All High Defiance Members, please look. I need your help. My nephew Joey? Some of you may know him... Is a film major. And he needs to do a documentary as a project that's due in May. As his topic, he chose Paintball. More specifically, Pump. I guess the kid demented or something. Personally, I would have done something relating to titties. But hey! That's me. Any way. He's divulged to me some theory on how he might go about getting it done, though I feel like since you're all so well informed, I thought we might be able to spread it out a bit for him, ie; 1) Politics. We could never achieve a thing with out it. Right Chaos? LOL 2) Demographics. Thought this might be useful. Economy plays a big role here I think. 3) Equipment. 4) Role play. 5) All of the above choices suck? That's ok. That's why I'm asking you. He needs to pass this! Share you're thoughts here with me and him. Oh yea! Almost forgot... He needs footage. You guys want to be in a movie?

| I'd like to start with a script first. Then highlight topics by adding film footage. Interviews and such. I'm not sure where to begin. Basically... What would make a great pump movie/documentary???

| MCB Member | Splattttttt, I'm going to PM you the phone number of my friend Chris, who has been playing paintball for about 10 years and has played pump with us a couple of times, like last year at the MCB game at a field in NH at the end of the year when it was a little chilly (Adventure Games?) Chris is relatively young and a film professional so he could give your nephew some pointers. I'll help too if you like, I did TV production years ago.

| Pump Documentary Hey Guys, its me Splattttttt's neph, JoeyBatts. Yes im here to document the world that not many people are aware of...Pump Paintball. Ever since my uncle introduced me to this wonderful sport I couldnt stop blabing about it, so I figured why not shoot a documentary about it. Its going to look very professional shot with a Sony FX1 in HDV with a 35mm Adapter (its going to look badass) I dont want to insult anyone by saying this but im leaning on a subjective documentary that shows the comparison between pump and regular paintball...How Pump Owns.. Basically the reason why I dont enjoy playing regular paintball anymore ever since I started to play pump. (I want to explain that feeling to everyone visually, instead of talking about how cool it is.) I own a Illusion and I prefer playing Stock Class over anything else. I have entered many games where I (the only man with a pump) Kicked lots of *** against people carrying their angles and spray and pray machines and gotten lots of respect. Thats what people dont understand when I walk on the field with my gun. They ask..why would you want a gun that shoots 10 balls...my response...cuz thats all I need What I want to address is: (and is open to suggestions) -How Pump Paintball came back? (if it even ever left?..got popular again..idk the history) -Weapons -Game Play ...Stradegy, tactics, loading-reloading (Stock Class Pump) -Discussions about your feelings toward pump. Pump vs Regular Paintball. How you came across the pump world ..etc. -Also What my uncle mentioned which I wouldnt have even thought to touch up on. Politics and Demographics...So the more input the better. I would love to interview teams (which would be awsome publicity for you as well, get a message out, a warning perhaps..lol) I aslo want to interview Non Pump Players and get their opinion on the whole PUMP vs Non-PUMP, Maybe pose as a PUMP HATER and get their real opinions..hehehe. On top of all that, I need to film us playing. How else can we show the people what we do. So If I can get enough people that want to participate and all agree on a date and spot to attend a game in the month of march or april or both..the more I go to the more footage I have. So addressing the interview topics now would get alot out of the way and you all would be pre-preped on what to think about saying. And then the fun part would be to play and show off your skillz. My email Address is JoeyBatts@gmail.com if you want to shoot an messages to me directly but I look foward to making this project possible. I want to thank in advance to everyones help and participation. |

| That was well put Joey. Based on those criteria you mentioned... All we need to do now is get you some live footage.

| This sounds like an interesting project. Anything that gets more people to give pump a try is great. My only concern is the slant you seem to be taking. I love playing pump, and I'd love to have you show people what a different and exciting game it can be. I don't think that you need to highlight "PUMP vs NON-PUMP" and what people think of eachother. There's too much divisiveness in this sport already, and frankly, I think that if that's the tack you plan on taking, you may want to re-think things. If your movie was written mainly to appeal to pump players, we'd obviously enjoy seeing it, but not too many non-pumpers are going to bother seeing it. I think you could get a much wider audience and maybe convince a few semi-players to give pump a try if you try to appeal to all paintballers. Lately, I've been playing indoor speedball with a bunch pf pump players from this site at Monster Paintball in Woburn, MA. A lot of the other people we see there appear to be very into the speedball/tourney thing. I haven't heard anything negative from these people, and the've come and talked to us about our guns and pump play. Sure, they may not understand why you would head out onto the field with only 10 rounds in your gun. How you explain it can make the difference between them thinking "sounds cool, maybe I'll give it a try sometime" or "Pump players are arrogant pricks". I know that a lot of smacktalk goes on in paintball, but if you want to promote pump play, smacktalk is not going to help. As I see it, a pure pump game (everybody using pumps) is a different game than the paintball most people play today. Slowing down the rate of fire makes a lot more movement possible and lets you take chances that would get you eliminated in most semi games. Honestly, rec pump games look a lot more like tourney semi games than rec semi does, as far as the movement and strategy. Lower ROF just makes it a little easier for players to pull off the spectacular moves you see in a really good tournament. The vast majority of rec semi games I've been in are hose-fests, with too many people on too small a field shooting really fast. Movement just isn't possible until at least half the players are eliminated. Playing pump in a semi world is not easy. I still struggle with it, but it's how I play because I get a satisfaction from knowing that almost every elimination I make is from a well-aimed shot, not a lucky one. It makes me move and choose my shots, not just shoot at every exposed bit of my opponents that I see. If I shoot at too small a target and miss, My opponent will probably figure out where I am and pin me down. That puts me at a disadvantage, but if I get out of it with a good snapshot, it's a rush. I don't play pump because I'm a great player, I play it because it gives me more satisfaction. I've wached good semi teams play, and I know that they are much better players. I'm older, less athletic, and put a lot less time into paintball than they do. Given a pump and time to practice using it, they'd kick my butt. For me, it's not about being the best, it's about being the best I can be. Playing pump against semis forces me to play my best game, or get eliminated early. Sorry for the rant, I'm just getting tired of the whole pump vs semi, woods vs tourney, agg vs old-school thing. Everyone does what appeals to themselves, it doesn't mean that what appeals to others is wrong. I'm glad you enjoy pump, and I'd be thrilled if you do this in a way that shows your passion without stepping on others' toes. If there's anything I can do to help, let me know.

| I'm not a "High-D" member, but a 26 year veteran of paintball and former "Pro", if you care for my input, just ask. And no, pump never left. Old timers like me never put down their pumps, we just played with them against the semi-boys, and got bashed by the semi-boys for hosing them-with a pump. If that's possible. ![]() |
