Diablo Deluxe pumpgun restoration

I don't know how old this marker is, but perhaps I can get some input/suggestions in here...

I am trying to restore an old Diablo Deluxe pumpgun (Nelson-based), but I need a new sear and bolt. I can perhaps modify the original bolt to work again, but I need a new sear. Are there any sears (other than the one designed for it) that would work or could be modified to work? Note that I am not able to make my own sear.

Any input/suggestions would be appreciated.

I take it you are suffering from "Autotriggeritis" and your bolt is notched and sear is worn??

I have a few Diablos, I think three Deluxes and a Standard with an adjustable bolt. Parts can be found, Bacci maybe. Dark Star as well I think. So far from what I have found is that they are Apex clones. I know they are completely different from Nelspots and Phantoms (different bolt style), not a whole lot in common with Mavericks and only slightly like a Razorback. One of my Diablos has a dropout valve body from a Razorback and it only works because I spaced the power tube with a Mag spacer. The hammer and power tube are different.

The frames look really good polished. It takes a lot of work though. They are very solid though and if I went with a vertical ASA off the trigger guard, I would use a short Mag one so that I would get a 15 degree tilt on the changer.

Some day maybe.

If you look on ebay and are patient you will find a junker sooner or later that will not go outrageous. The prices flucuate between $35 and $65 for no apparent reason. Nothing to do with the condition they are in.

I paid a chunk of money for one in terrible condition (when I got it) and paid a reasonable amount for the Standard that appeared to never have been fired. the only marks seemed to be from storage.

Here you go:

None of them are the same now as when I took the pictures except the polished one. That's my sons. I still occasionally use the Micro SC, the rest are packed away for now until I get moved to Minnesota.

Here are some comparison pictures too:

I don't like to autotrigger. The guy I got it from did.
Yes, the bolt is notched. The sear is so weak I can bend it with my fingers.

I will check with Bacci and Darkstar. Thanks for the tips guys.

A vert. ASA off the trigger guard is an interesting idea... hmm.

I didn't think you were the one that did it, but you get the older ones that way sometimes. I think I flipped the bolt on one of them I have 'til I got a new one.

If you make a new sear (good reason to buy some tools "dril, dremel, small vice grips"), drill the pivot hole first and cut away every thing that doesn't look like a sear. Finish it up with a file. Stick it over a gas stove and heat the contact part up until it glows and quench it in the sink. You do own a gas stove right?

Those darn electrics aren't good for anything other than cooking food.

Bacci's ads are good for reference material also. You won't find better parts pictures anywhere else. they should be archived for that reason alone.

Good luck.

Yes, I have a gas stove. But I don't have the other proper tools and materials to do that with at the moment. Perhaps my pops can help me out when his work schedule slows down...

The bolt had already been flipped. BOTH sides are worn out. I was thinking about having someone use a lathe to make the sear catch groove a bit deeper or drilling a new hole to rotate the bolt to.
Either way, I need to find the time to do it first.

Get someone with a drill press to do two more holes so you can flip it again.......

Twice!

Unfortunately even if I scrap one of mine I will be keeping the bolt for my Razorback. Unless I totally lose my mind and sell 'em all.

Buy another working one for spare parts, they are way under valued and have been for ever.

Why buy another WORKING one for parts? I would just end up using that one while the other collect dust. If I'm going to buy another pump it's going to be a nicer, newer one. But I'm a working college student and money is tight- I'd sooner just use what I have and wait 'til the right part(s) turns up.

B is right, they are way undervalued. I have my current "collection" because I like to switch grips, feeds and barrels around. You couldn't piece one together as cheap as you could by a working one on e-bay. By the time you buy the hammer, bolt and valve you have just paid for the whole blasted gun.

They are solid. They are the ICD Thundercat of pumps.

The only thing you have to watch out for (in my opinion) is stripped out bolt holes and auto trigger damage (like I'm telling you something new!).
