I believe the clause about gambling just covers gambling in general and does not have to be NFL related. I heard this as someone quoted the clause on ESPN. Unfortunately, I can not find the clause on the net.

I believe that is true as well. I don't think they differentiate but rather lump it all together because to try to prevent any gray areas.

Not knowing exactly the stance of the NFL and why, I was briefly listening to this story.
There was mention of a year suspension (whether gambling related or not , I don't know) by the NFL in addition to any jail time.
If he were to be convicted and found in breach of contract, He would have to return the signing bonus as well (somewhere around 34 million)
High price to pay for being a dumbass

I bet he won't serve, and be back on the field soon. Though he does deserve to get raped.

I am disappointed in the NFL. Gambling is so bad that it warrants a lifetime ban, however drug dealing, shooting people and domestic violence are okay? Dog fighting is bad, horrible, inhumane, digusting...pick your own word here. But it is not worse than hitting your wife or many of the other things that NFL players have done over the years. I didn't hear a war cry against those players calling for their jobs.

Sorry Pickle! I was not referring to you. Although I can see how it would appear that way from the "Giving Barry His Due Thread".

I do not think it would have been that bad for Vick if he was just dog fighting. It is executing dogs that would not fight and the manner the executions were carried out it why he is suddenly hated! Maybe he could join the Tali-ban???

There really is no such thing as "just dog fighting" so no surprise there. That's what happens to just about every bred fighting dog that loses a fight or simply doesn't have it in him. It's not like they'd put em' up for adoption afterward. They wouldn't even bother to feed them if they weren't making money off em'. Not only that but after the way they are raised and trained they're better off dead.

Is anyone here familiar with what goes into training fighting dogs? Even if you hate dogs you would be horrified if you saw what goes on at those places.

Some may also be interested in the correlation between animal cruelty and domestic violence. It all stems from the same basic sociopathic personality.

I will agree that if Vick was just betting on the fights it would not be as bad but general concensus is that he was much more involved than that. It'll be interesting to see what comes of this.

If he wasn't a celebrity he would be getting the max charge for cruelty. People have been charged more for less. I don't know how you could feel bad for someone who is gonna' get special treatment because of how well they play a sport and how much money they can afford to pay lawyers. The least that should be done is to humiliate him as much as possible. People of influence should be held to a higher standard to set an example for the rest of society. Would you want your child to look up to someone like that?

It's the same thing as Lindsay Lohan getting one day in jail for two DUI's, possession, and trying to run someone off the road. Any of us would still be locked up but that little douche gets a slap on the wrist.

I say bann him forever from the NFL. Maybe even the other football leagues too. I hope Canada doesn't accept him in the CFL. I say give him the max. If he's allowed to play in the NFL again, I won't watch it anymore. I'll miss the cowboys. They should bann everyone who got in trouble over the last yr. If I could get fired for doing something outside my job,why can't they?
Later,
Blackrain

They did a pole and over 58% of the sports enthusiasts (nfl enthusiasts to be exact) all said they never want to see him play in the NFL again. The remaining 42% was a mix of maybe's and yes's. Clear message to the NFL, and the owner of the Falcons has said as long as he's the owner, Vick is not stepping on his field.
