ANS has them for $999 with a tank included. Empire must not be seeing the sales numbers they hoped for.

When I originally saw the defender I had a price in mind. Then I saw the real price and laughed. 999 is still pricey and ideally needs to be 800ish to be a viable purchase (without the tank). I actually really like it, but just don't think it is worth the asking price.

Well at least it seems to work for people who bought them or at least I haven't heard any complaints.
For a design that's out of the norm for paintball, even if it uses off the shelf parts, that alone impresses me
At $800 I think they'd sell

I think if they had just made the body out of a fiber/glass reinforced plastic they could have achieved their strength goals with comparable weight as the magnesium. Think of how much the magnesium shells cost to manufacture. That's got to be a large part of their asking price and it seems totally unnecessary to me. I really like it and if I was into putting out paint/pain I'd get one, but it doesn't fit my 1 ball style very much. Wouldn't mind my spotter having one when sniping though...

The idea is years old, the fact that the warp feed exists is evidence of that. The only thing that seems to have changed, and since I'm out of the tourney scene I have no clue, is the rule that the hopper had to be independent of the gun. If the base gun is your "low end" model with a body kit to allow for internal hopper use, it shouldn't double in cost.
