I had a bright orange safety vest that I wore. It was around $10 on Amazon. I would wear my normal arm guards, pants, and other gear with it.

I pretty much only shot speedball, woodsball games are too risky for my taste. I would just introduce myself to people and say something like "Hey, can you pass the word that I'm not playing?" or something. I usually never got shot by anything other than when I would accidentally walk into a lane.

Neither of these ideas will work well if you're on a field with trees, but what about a sashimono of some type?

Or even a couple helium balloons tied to your belt, could get a nightmarish clown mask to complete the ensemble (I might shoot the hell out of you if I actually saw you dressed like this, lol).

I like the shashimono, unfortunately I'd probably be mistaken for a mobile flag base. From the suggestions so far it seems that I've tried to do or wear the things that work for other photographers. I guess I'm just unlucky and the players at my fields have overly itchy trigger fingers.

i4's
I have a jersey that the players have all seen that the league has oked (since it does not look like any player jersey on the rosters)
so I wear that and some camo cargo pants just for the pockets

protection for the camera is my body or if its heavy rain I do have a rain bag.
For the lens I use those skater sweat bands on the focus and zoom ring
to keep paint out of the creases.

I used to wear a red and green Christmas Elf looking hat with bells on it. Most of the time they hear me first then see my head and hat above anything else. I always made it known to the teams before the game that I was there and let them see what I was wearing.

Arson - I like the skater bands idea, definitely going to start doing that.

I picked up two of them for $4

cleaning is easy just throw them in the wash, saves getting a card and a blower to get it out of the creases of the lens.

I have shot several big games, and unfortunately learned that there are some serious pricks out there that will not only shoot you, but will aim for your camera. One rotten apple spoils it for everyone. At that point, the 70-200 was retired from shooting paintball.
