Both of my PS2's have been very early models. I found that PS1 games would sometimes just randomly freeze up on me or not load properly the first time.

They're all original copies. I'm glad that at least I could still use my old PS1rumble controller on the PS2, since it only came with one. Thanks for the suggestions, and keep em coming if you have any others. I think I will have to look into making a swap for a 2nd gen at some point...or just say the heck with it and enjoy all the PS2 games out now.

Swapping out that PS1 controller at some point will be a good idea. The buttons on the PS2 controllers are pressure sensitive and many games make use of this feature.

If you like StarWars and Shooters, pickup Battlefronts, I've been playing it for months. And its $20 new.

Black is easily the prettiest shooter on the PS2. It's pretty good, albeit fairly short. If you're into Zelda-style adventure games, I highly recommend Okami. It might be a little on the difficult side to find as the developer, Clover Studios, got shut down. I can't recommend this game enough!

God of War is another great one. The sequel is coming out soon. Next month, possibly?

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence is another good game.

Devil May Cry 1 & 3 are good ***-kicking fun. DMC2 is crap, though. If you get DMC3, make sure it's the Special Edition version; it has an extra, easier difficulty setting on it and a number of other worthwhile extras. The standard version just kept owning my hide and I found that I couldn't make any progress.

The Prince of Persia series is a lot of fun, but again the second one, Warrior Within isn't as good as the first and last ones.

I had a good time with all three of the Onimusha games. You can kinda think of them as samurai games meet Resident Evil. That reminds me, Resident Evil 4 is a brilliant game. I haven't played the PS2 version, but I hear it's every bit as good as the Gamecube one and it has more content and an exclusive weapon.

Edit: The best part for you is that pretty much all of these games should be available for $20 new!

I wholeheartedly agree. Okami is one of the most amazing games ever EVER

Also for the zelda-esque adventure game, look into samurai legend musashi. It is a ton of fun.

Beyond Good and Evil is a solid action/adventure game that's cheap, and Metal Slug is a lot of fun too.
