Our high school had a Xenix (Xerox's version of Unix) server and we all worked on Wyse or ancient AT&T VT100 terminals. We learned early on how to spoof the from address of a mail message and had some fun. One Algebra teacher would always use the phrase "So I said to myself, 'Self...'", so we spammed him like crazy (before it was commonly called spam, this was 1988-ish?) with messages from "Self". They turned off mail for the rest of the year after that....

Yeah...I had the opportunity a few years back to actually get the "mainframe" that it was run on when the school was cleaning out a storage room and I was doing some consulting work for them. I think it had a Motorola 68030 w/ FPU, 32 MB RAM, and 5 100 MB SCSI hard drives. The damn thing put out as much heat as some space heaters do nowadays. For some reason, I decided against taking it...
