Ok,

Someone who has been in the sport longer than I have please answer this question: Has the Thumper set the record yet for most redesigns due to failure of a single part in a production marker?

Thanks.

Why not make the piston out of (wait for it, here it comes...) brass? Looks like I won't have my gun back in time for next months big game

Good question! Answer: Brass costs money, Metadyne was too cheep to adequately beta test, and are too cheep to use brass. (Won't even use decent steel...)

I think those materials are too heavy, and thus make it harder to get the thumper up to speed.

Should we just rename the Thumper the 'Enron'

I guess I may need to wait to send mine in ... or plan not to see it for some time during the next few redesigns. It was a smooth shooter when it was working, I really want this one to work.

I was told that Brian's broke on him, don't know where at.

I think the v3 design is a winner. It just needs to be made out of stainless. Aluminum just isn't a good material for the piston, which is obviously a high stress part in the design.

I'm going to guess it was at the first -006 o-ring boss as usual ... the material choice doesn't seem to be up to the stress at that thin point ... SS piston with aluminum cap sounds like it might be a good plan to start though.
Or moving to something slightly more exotic like a Ti piston rod ... but I don't see that in our future anytime soon.
