Tuning a Sterling with a reg.

I have a sterling with a va with a palmers stab on it. I do not know how to set the reg I just bought it. I tried the screw in the bottom of the reg in many different positions and the velocity is all over the place. I mean like from 190-240 I am running CO2 please help.

make sure you are not getting liquid CO2 in the valve chamber for starters. Then, when you make an adjustment fire the gun 3-5 times, then check your velocity.

These guns hold a lot of gas in the chambers. You could try to reduce the volume of the valve chamber some before you crono. Just a thought...

Is the stab new?

If so, it will require a little time to break in.

well i bought the stab used but it is supposed to be almost brand new. he said less than a 1000 balls shot through it. and it is in perfect cosmetic cond. so i don't think he was lying

when adjusting, you should working quarter to half turns. Then shoot 3-5+ times. Then adjust again. Note that If your using the stock sterling springs you might have an issue because the valve spring is very weak.

Spyder springs work i believe. Been awhile since I had mine.

Do you use a spyder drive spring?

I used the stock spring in my sterling with a stablizer and it always worked great. As I recall I had the vlocity adjuster out most of the way and just used the stab to set my velocity everytime.

I have a old sterling it doesn't have a velocity adjuster.
