The latest and greatest from the Redux Factory located at desertduckdd68.com, the Redux Box Gun sn B001. As I removed the Redux Box Gun (RBG) from the package I was greeted with fantastic blue hues and one grasp of the trigger frame screamed handmade custom Redux! This new concoction is exactly that a full fledged custom work of art destined to become as legendary as its big brother Redux. I had no idea Duck years were nearly equal to Dog years because thats exactly how long its been since I first caught a sneak peek at Steve "mOngo" Brett's latest tribute to the cult classic CIP Box Gun. Like the now legendary Redux the RBG is not only true to the original specs of the CIP but also brings forth Steve's proven craftsmanship. In short its a Redux in a Box Guns' body. Those familiar to the Redux line of paintball handguns (yes I said handguns) know Steve melded yesterdays all stars with today technology. At first glance it looks like its grand daddy the CIP Box Gun. However like the Redux before it, the RBG sports a removable freak compatible all aluminum barrel. This one new feature alone makes this hands down one of the best, most compatible Nelson based markers to grace our sport well since ....the Redux. As you can see the RBG will be everything the CIP should have been and everything the Redux is with a slightly smaller price tag. Although build dates have yet to be finalized I have a feeling Steve is about to receive a whole new round of phone calls attempting to back door a slot on the short list....Sorry bro you asked for it! The RBG sports an identical Redux 45 in grip slide trigger frame. The tolerances' are just as tight as the Redux and the lines are smooth. Had Steve not told me the barrel was removable I would have thought the snub was a single unit with a slight step for the return spring to seat on. Like its big brother the removable barrel sports an o-ring to give it an air tight fit and keep it from unthreading. When I set up this thread I was going to do a full on comparison to the original but that would be like comparing the David Loo DD68 to a Redux. Sure the original is what we all aspire to get our hands on, but there is no way the original compares to the playability of todays technologically advanced Redux branded goods. If you are not familiar with the CIP Box Gun it is a top fed 1911 inspired Nelson based marker. Where it differs from the DD68 is cosmetically, it is not as intimidating due to its boxy appearance and the fact only the lower front grip does the cocking action not the entire sliding action. This however allows the silky smoothness of a custom dual armed pump without any binding the slide based original suffered from. Both utilize millet sights which gave both dead eye accuracy. Some of the draw backs of the original CIP was the fact it came with a PVC feed tube and although milled from solid stainless steel stock the owner was stuck with the inner bore for the life of the gun. It also suffered from poor shot count and a strangely angled 12gm screw in cap. Like it predecessor DD68, its life was short lived which has created a cult like following among the old school stock class crowd. If you haven't gotten your hands on one you'll be hard pressed to locate an original but rejoice because the Redux Factory will hopefully bring the RBG to the masses. From what I understand the run will be a one time short list based on what little time Steve can manage to tweak out of his schedule. Rumor is there is another Redux on the horizon with mil-sim written all over it. So if you are fortunate enough to get on the short list for a Redux, RBG or Tactical Redux count you luck feathers. UPDATE: Steve will make a Box Gun Run for all those interested in aquiring one so save your pennies. If you already own a Redux your in luck as Steve will be offering an RBG kit for current Redux owners. This will make the Redux/RBG the most advanced convertable Nelson based marker to ever exist, not to mention its all hand made....WOW! Comparison of Redux RBG and CIP 12 gram twist handles. Sorry guys I'm gonna leave you wanting more at least until the weekend when I brake this baby out on the field. Up next "The Redux vs RBG side by side comparison." I'm sure Steve has a name for his baby all I know I'm calling it Blue Steel named after the fantastic Gurkha I just smoked. ![]() Update 12/10/2010: After having the RBG for several months I have one thing to say ... It shoots darts. I was surprised by the accuracy due to the short barrel but as always Steve did not disappoint. I really put it through the ringer having a field day at my local Challenge Games in Lubbock Tx. Over the next few days I'll post up some new video for your viewing pleasure. Challenge Games have several different fields with a nice creek running through the middle. I'd like to personally thank Brandon for letting me play wth just about anyone he is a stand up guy. At first he was worried I migh put a whoopin on the electro crowd but I first had to prove I wouldnt bonus ball them so he allowed it. The reason I mention the terrain is the fact you can be in an open field one minute and crawling through the brush the next. The terrain is what makes the RBG some damn bad ***. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRiHO...e_gdata_player It's a super short snubbed pistols that allows the user to get into tight cramped spaces without giving away you position. Although it screamed blue all day long it was tiny enough to tuck between your hands and sneak up on my mark. The pump stroke is super short feeling, crisp and smooth without out any kind of binding or pinching. What impressed me most was the fact that on three separate occasions it churned steadily around 280. During several games I was able to go toe to toe with speedball ballers simply due to it's ease of use. As for shots per 12 gm in actual play I'd have to honestly say 30-35 easily. I did notice I shot a whole lot more paint with the RBG opposed to the Redux. In the end I really hated to part with her but Daddy needed her back so he could get to work on yours. If your gonna get one gun next year I recommend you seriously consider the RBG it's that good. Honestly 5 out of 5 stars I was tempted to dock it one star simply because I was able to go through 200 balls in a day which really bit into my paintball budget. Hey chef I mic'ed my Boxy and it's right at 69.2 so it'll shoot RP Premium with out roll outs. I am quite impressed with it and surprised it never took off. Any idea how many originals were made? Am I correct they were made in Azuza? I seem to recall them pushing them during the "Losing Sucks" days!

Looking forward to reading your review. Any idea if it's a converted Phantom (like the one shown on his website) or a mostly scratch-built marker like the Redux?
