I used my lathe to provide a third hand. Like RuleOfSines said, you need to take the pressure off the snap ring so you can get it out with a pick.

Edit: also the valve is the same as a prolite....

I would think a brass hammer would be fine so long as the striking surface were something harder. I think brass would deform at the striking surface after a little while. I'm liking the gun so far.
