Unusual KP2 internals...

Well, this has been bugging me for a while. And since I broke down my pirate to give her a nice brasso bath, I figured I'd snap a picture of the guts.

Pic:

Specifically, the hammer and main spring are what bother me. The hammer...well, I've never seen another hammer like it from a K series. It baffles me every time I look at it, and multiple searches on here gave me nothing.

And then there's the spring. I don't know how, I don't know why, but yes...that is a nelson main spring. Fits and works perfect. I compared it to my phantom springs, and it's a dead ringer. I didn't question it for a while, but I'm dying to know what's up here.

Anyone have any input? The gun works fine, I just wonder if this is more common than I think it is. My other KP2 and my K2 share the usual sheridan internals...this one is the odd one.

I thought that too, but it really doesn't look like it's been milled. There's some sort of coating on it, as well. I could be wrong, but I don't think it's been milled.

As for feel, it doesn't seem any different to me. Same pump stroke as my other K, same trigger pull, but it does get a hell of a lot of shots off on a 12ie. It's only shooting around 240-250 at the moment, but it's easily pulling 30+ shots off. I was told that it has a valve job, and I'm pretty sure it's Palmers, but I don't know for sure.

The plus side is I have a very diverse spring kit for it haha!

Just a modified hammer to help shorten dwell on the exhaust time. Built to help increase efficiency. You probably guessed that already I'm sure. Probably adds a much lighter pump stroke to boot.

THE-SHOOTIST Anyone chubbin' like me for this?
mailmanmike Since Monday! That's more than 4 hours though, so according to those cialis ads I should see my doctor.
tlane77 I think for a non-chemical chubby it's 6 hours before its time to see a doctor. So you should be good for another couple hours.
splattttttt I wasn't goin to google "chubbin" because I assumed it had to do with fat. The lard type, not the fun stuff. But what ever feelings Jeff's experiencing, then they must be of the fun like stuff...

Sort of reminds me of the Blazer tinkers kit/Pyre hammer. Could be a Palmer's modification, especially if you think it was tuned by PPS. And if the hammer was milled, it would have been annealed first and then hardened afterward, giving it the color you believe is a coating.

Nah, it's from one of my other KP2s. The one in Tacolex's old pirate is pretty normal. This one however....

I need to try it with the new mainspring in there, should be enough to kick it up around 260-270.

If I had those internals, I would be messing around with the springing. Try different valve and hammer spring combos from a nelson kit. Maybe put in a weaker trigger spring.

Well, I don't have the means to pull the valve out at this time, but I did mess with the main spring today. Pretty sure the one in there now was from a carter. But, on a fresh crossman 12ie, the first shot opened up at 301. From 2 to 14, it dropped down to about 280. From 15 to 30, it went down to 250. By 35, I was at about 220, and by 40 I was hitting 180.

I think I'm just going to leave it alone now. Best efficiency I've ever had on a sheridan, unless my RTP will beat it.
