Cartridge valve modifying

I am looking at the cartridge valve I'm going to use for my new project and the valve pin hangs out of the body, basically 3/8 of an inch and only strokes about an 1/8th, so in the interest of keeping things as compact as possible, I am thinking of taking a good 3/16 of an inch off the valve stem.
Does anyone have a good reason not to? I always hate cutting first and figuring out it's not going to work as I had envisioned second...
Just to clear up the semi-obvious, no, this is not going in a factory body.

I don't see why not, just keep it long enough so the hammer isn't slapping the valve body.

I would press the pin in until it can't go in anymore and see how much still protrudes, I have taken about 1/16 off with no issues. Also make sure you round the corners or it will balloon out from the hammer hitting it and you can't remove the valve stem.

Are there any advantages to doing this in a stock gun (Say a Cart-PGP)?

I wouldn't think so, unless you were trying to accomplish something special with the spring length, or hammer size. I just have the luxury of being able to basically move the barrel and the valve back on the lower tube. I know 3/16 isn't much, but why make things bigger than they need to be?

I would imagine in a factory body, yes something like that may be the case. I may not be able to do anything with it anyway as it seems the pringle bolt may be in the way.
